Ash and Goo piles, so they ever despawn?

Like in Skyrim, in the beginning there was a major issue where Ash and Ectoplasm piles would never despawn and stay there forever, slowly bloating the save game until it was so large that it became instable or simply CTD'ed all the time.

Now we got Fallout 4 and I'm noticing something disturbing, some raiders were turned into ash piles by my laser turrets within the Sanctuary construction boundary when I was level 30, I'm now level 65 and those piles are still there!

On the other hand, all the actual raider corpses(bodies) went away just fine.

Same thing on the Castle, all corpses from past battles are gone, except for the ash piles created by Danse and hes laser weapon.

Also I can't even activate the ash piles to open them, its like the container they are connected to is gone.

I have not paid attention to any other ash/goo piles in other locations around the game, but can someone please be so kind to give some proper information about this.

-Do those piles actually despawn?

-Do they only despawn outside of town boundaries? (towns don't respawn, maybe thats why the ash piles don't despawn inside the town either?)

-Corpses despawn inside the town boundaries, so why arn't ash/goo piles doing the same? (Bethesda 10 year old bug still there?)

I'm really confused about it and would love to hear how it really works, so far I have gone through the trouble to install a mod that prevents these ash/goo piles in the first place, and I'm also using the console command 'disable' to get rid of any old piles in the settlements that were there from the past.

But is this actually necessary or am I just imagining things?

This is a chronic problem in Bethesda games. I have no clue why the are too damn lazy to fix this, but it's true... they will NEVER despawn, and even "disabling" them doesn't remove them and reduce the tension on your game, it just makes the physical thing go away, but the memory is still being used, almost like throwing a blanket over it and pretending it doesn't exist when it still does, like putting something in your computer's recycle bin and deleting it... it still exists in some form.

The only way to get rid of them is to not use energy weapons or energy turrets in the first place. Barring that, if you DO like those things (which I do of course) is to mod the game to where the effect of ash piles and goo piles doesn't exist and is turned off through manipulating the settings of the game, so when you get a critical hit kill, no effect whatsoever happens.

I just fought this issue last night. It really sucks if you can't get rid of them. One of my settlements was under attack and I had a settler equipped with a laser and they must've blasted a bad guy on one of my guard posts (there's a pile on it). Now my designated guard won't get on the post. He just keeps wondering around there. Wat do?

Ha! The wonderer song just popped into my head

I was thinking of "markfordelete" when I start playing tonight but sounds like that won't work either.

I've read somewhere when I was playing NV that even that doesn't get rid of them, but it makes it more ascetically pleasing to see, but I hope for everyone's sake that it gets rid of the thing forever, and doesn't tamper with killing enemies and inventories.

Be careful with NAMED npcs that you slay, you might not be able to differentiate them and lose key quest items, so take care.

As oldspice2625 said, the "disable" command only makes the item in question disappear from view but it is still there... just invisible. I don't think that would really help with "program bloating" or even my guard not returning to his post. I know you can do an "enable" command and it brings a disabled item back no matter how long or how many saves ago it was. The "markfordelete" command removes it permanently (when you leave the cell and return) but can really screw things up if you're not careful to click on the exact item you want gone. I know that during my Skyrim days there were people who said not to use "markfordelete" at all. The pile doesn't seem to give me a separate item number so I just don't know.

I sure wish I didn't have to learn every single aspect of how Beth games work to fix/enjoy them! Kind of immersion breaking.

Okay guys, but what about ash/goo piles OUTSIDE of your own towns, did anyone ever notice those not despawning?

So far I'm getting the impression that the piles only stay when they are created inside the town construction boundaries, because honestly I have not really noticed any other ash/goo piles from the past anywhere else.
