Some auto repair help?

Can anybody suggest a good forum to ask some noob questions about car repair? Google seems to be useless for this sort of thing.

Or maybe someone here can help? I've got this ancient 1990 half ton Chevy pickup (c1500) and noticed a busted line while I was replacing some filters. Anyone know what the heck this is and do I need to get my shotgun and shoot the thing? It feeds into the carburetor, whatever it is.

Chuckles..see that circular air filter?...the carburetor is directly underneath it, perched on the top of the engine block. If it feeds into the carburetor then it's most likely a fuel line.

If that is what I think it is, it is just the hose that goes to the PCV or Positive Crankcase Valve. link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crankcase_ventilation_system

You can drive with it disconnected for a short while but your engine may run rough. It is an easy fix. Your local Auto parts place should have a replacement PCV valve for a few bucks.

Here is a quick look at c1500 parts lists - it can vary by year & other factors: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?Ntt=Chevy+C1500+PCV+Valve

If it was a fuel line like Aurielius thinks then you would have gas spewing all over when you tried to crank the engine - Not good and a serious fire hazard.

I asked my husband about this and he agrees with Bben. You need that piece to hook it together and its part of the emission system. It like recovers gas fumes and mixes it to recirculate it. It would prob run but it won't pass any test and may have prob running WELL as it won't get a good mix of whatever.

Keep in mind I have had this info in my head long enough that it has been female translated by a non-gearhead female. lol
