the00phoenix
Mae Govannen, Amrog! Arnoediad andaith dortho nef ada-nor... harthad an'u, amrod go-in haitha bui angol. -- DYou caught me there, although I posed as someone who knows Sindarin , this phrase is a riddle for me. I tried to translate what you wrote (note that I don't know any grammar) with my Sindarin<->German dictonary, but it doesn't really make sense. What does "Amrog" mean? I think something bad, since there are many evil words with -rog, like Balrog, gorog, etc. This is what I found out (~ := means):Arnoediad [~ countless], andaith [~ long-sign (transleted directly from German)], dortha [~ live], nef [~ on this side of], ada [~ dad], nor [~ ?], harthad [~ hope], an'u [~ (I guess) with you (since an ~ with)], amrod [~ ?], go- [~ with], in [~ his], haitha [~ ?], buia [~ serve], angol [~ magic / bad smell] I'm curious, what does it really mean? ThetaOrionis01
This is a total guess by someone who speaks no Elven languages at all, but could Amrog mean Firebird, ie Phoenix?
the00phoenix
Maybe it sounds like a total guess because of the translation Sindarin->German->English. Most Sindarin words result in "old" German words, which I can't translate into their proper English. "Firebird" means "naurheledir" according to my dictonary, but since I do not know for sure, there is no basis for a further discussion. I'm eager to learn, nevertheless. ^_^
Daerk
In a nutshell: Well met, Wanderer! Countless long texts dwell here far from your father-land... may your journey go well with luck. That's a very rough translation into English. -- D
loveme4whoiam
... Theta has Spambane Switch has Spamcleaver... Look, there's just too many anti-spam weapons. i mean, Theta has the bane, Switch has the cleaver, Marx keeps telling Malchik to get a book of macabre poetry... Cant one of the mods just pin a thread with them all on? It would make life so much easier... Faust and Phoenix, well met. I've just started to learn Quenya (like just started. I know my name and thats about it  ) Nice to see someone on these forums who knows what they're talking about. I'm doing the http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/qcourse.htm course at the moment, along with some stuff from the L.E.A.F site. Can you make any other recommendations? Slightly OT, but since the guy who started the thread is actively involved, i dont think this is thread-jacking. Hope not :innocent:
Malchik
Prods loveme with the Spear of Spamdoom (as has been announced elsewhere). It is hijacking. But I will be kind and let it be this time with a gentle request that you make more use of the PM system in future.
