Using Models made in 3d max for Fallout New Vegas GECK

I wanna start to make some assets for my Fallout NV Mod. I have done quite a lot in 3d max and worked with Unity and Unreal Engine, but I have absolutely no Idea what needs to be done in order to get my models from 3d max work in Fallout NVs GECK. Are there any good step by step tutorials on how to do it?

If you are going to go down the Blender path, note that the nif tools only properly work with Blender 2.49. Folks have been trying to get them to work with later versions of Blender, but the last time I checked there were still a lot of things that didn't work properly.

Somewhere on the nexus (might be under the Fallout 3 section) there's a complete package with Blender 2.49 and all of the nif tools you need, all bundled together with versions that all work with each other.

Whether you switch to Blender or stay with 3ds Max, your textures will need to be in dds format. You can use GIMP or Paint.Net (which is not the MS Paint that comes with windows, but is a free download) to edit or convert images to dds format. GIMP requires a plugin. Paint.Net used to require a plugin, but I believe it now comes with dds support built into the main version.
