pokemondude
After recovering from a virus/malware on my PC, I am now unable to run OBSE_loader under my username. The DOS window that pops up when I run it gives an error message of "too many free args" and "Couldn't read arguments". When I try to run OblivionLauncher the initial screen pops up and the only choices I can select are Elderscrolls.com and Exit. Note that with either EXE I get the "Open with" dialog popping up. I tried removing the Oblivion folder under "My Games" and got the same results. However, both OBSE_loader and OblivionLauncher do work properly when I log in to my dad's profile on this same PC. I copied the Oblivion save folder to his "My Games" folder and Oblivion reads and sees the save points just fine. I'm also finding that under my username I can't run MS Word (application not found) or control panel apps (C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe - application not found), so this is probably a Windows issue. Can someone please help? Running XP SP2 or 3. Thanks. Stephen
HeyYou
If you are getting an "open with" dialog for an exe file.... you have some registry issues...... Since it works under another username..... it should be salvageable, but, I haven't a clue as to what to do here..... Either that, or you are still infected. That virus has wreaked havoc in your profile's registry database.
pokemondude
Indeed it was a registry problem - I had to run a registry fixer when logged in under each user ID in order to clear it up. Creating a new user ID and transferring files would have been my next approach. Thanks for being so quick and responsive, folks! Stephen
