Nazahr94
Recently I started to work on interiors but its impossible to place walls, corners, stairs. etc perfectly next to each other without creating gaps or overlapping them. All interiors in the vanilla game are almost perfectly placed together. It seems that there is a option by pressing Q, but its not helping much. Is there any other way to place objects perfectly next to each other?
Ladez
If you're having trouble with snap to grid, try changing the movement speed and grid size. Look for them in the movement tab in the GECK preferences. Good numbers for grid size are multiples of 8; 32, 64, 128, and so on. Movement speed depends on how close you are to the objects you're working with. The best settings will depend on the job as well as your own preference, so experiment and find something you're comfortable with. There are also similar settings for rotating objects. madmongo
If you look up near the top of the GECK, there's a row of buttons. From the left, you've got a bunch for loading and saving, then undo and redo, and then there are three buttons, join or break planes, snap to grid, and snap to angle. The Q button toggles the snap to grid on and off. To create interiors without gaps, turn on both snap to grid and snap to angle. Then make sure you orient your pieces either north-south or east-west. If you do that, then corners, walls, etc. will generally snap together fairly easily. There are some pieces that don't snap together properly, though. The ushomkitchen4way01 piece for example isn't at the right elevation, so when it snaps into place it's off vertically from wall and doorway pieces next to it. Some of the sidewalk pieces are off vertically as well. I don't remember how much the kitchen piece is off by, but I do remember off the top of my head that the sidewalk pieces are off by 16. With the grid snap on, they move 64 units at a time. For pieces like this, once the object is placed, you can turn off snap then double click on the object to bring up its details. It will have the object's X Y and Z coordinates, and next to those will be the modifier. With snap on, the modifier will be 64 by default, and with it off the modifier will be one. So to put the sidewalk pieces down where they belong, change the modifier to 16, then click the down arrow on the right side of the Z coordinate, and it will drop the object 16 units. Roads and sidewalks generally snap together ok, with a few exceptions for sidewalks. Interiors mostly snap together ok, except that stair heights sometimes aren't a multiple of 64, so if you attempt a two-level interior, you may have to move the upper level down by 16 to make the stairs between the two floors line up. I've had NPCs drop through floors in two-level interiors though, despite the area being properly navmeshed. As much as people hate loading screens, sometimes it is better to split the upper floor into a separate interior cell.
