Going slightly mad.

So I had this idea that a cool and totally immersive mod (considering the circumstances our charcters find themselves in) where the character can be hampered by various mental disorders. You have after all just woken up from nuclear armageddon, seen your spouse murdered in front of your eyes, your child stolen from you, wandered a bleak and desolate wasteland filled with all manner of viscious mind breaking things around. Possibly, nay probably, even eaten a fellow human being to survive... Yet your character just takes it in their stride, not even a hint of a shaky hand.
So what if a mod would allow a game mechanic where a variety of conditions can manifest with a suitable variety of detrimental (or not) side effects. For example:

Kleptomania: Filled with a desperate need to horde for "survivals sake" you may inadvertantly steal something without actually hitting the action button.

Bullemia: Wracked with guilt for your actions and feeling a generous dollop of self-loathing you may inadvertantly vomit after consuming food, bonus to to the chance if said food was once human.

PTSD: You hallucinate bad guys firing at you, or shake uncontrollably when you try to aim, nightmares keep you from getting a well rested bonus.

Homicidal Rage: Enough is enough, this world has broken you and feelings of powerlessness cause you to lash out.

I could keep going; you get the general idea. It would have to be both sensitive and immersive. You could have to go see Dr Amari or something to cure yourself.

Anyway, just throwing it out there.

honestly, the main character is already... unbalanced... at least imo.

I mean he goes around firing first and blowing the heads off people he sees and they are 'labeled' as 'raiders' (Even before he knows about them) sees mutants and pretty much takes it in stride(as he blows their heads off too...lol) and loads of other s#*!. Pretty much 'accepts' it all.

I mean in HIS mind, maybe (After seeing the death of his wife in such a gruesome way, and watching his child, a baby, torn from her arms as she dies...) hes already 'lost it' (And what we see is just a slideshow of his madness)

truth is, I think he already suffers from a lot of what u got up there :D

I think it basically comes down to free will. I mean yes, you can go around blowing raiders heads off unprovoked like a good little psychopath, or you can choose to go around them or wait for them to fire on you first, or wait until a mission demands it, but ultimately you have a choice.

If you are derranged you act compulsively, unable to choose to whether to perform an action or not. And if this was reflected in gameplay it would add a whole new dimension of depth to the character. No doubt it would be frustrating at times, but if you wanted the challenge it could be awesome.
