djehmli
The Grafix textures were my culprit. I would crash to desktop from any interior cell, like the Museum. Removing the Grafix textures seems to be the charm, have been playing for an hour without incident, including legacy saves.
whodat1
This is unusual. I tried removing the textures in this thread (many of which I had) without any success. I put them back in and started tracing down the one giving me problems. It turned out to be \Data\textures\Vehicles\Motorcycle\Motorcycle_Dirty_d.dds.It seems as if different people are getting affected by different textures depending on....what??? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the texture CTD. I read about 2 dozen threads on this problem and a lot of people are having problems with completely different textures. I wonder if it has something to do with the order you loaded the mods in? More like where the texture ended up than what it actually is.
seetruck2000
Look at the textures and see if their from Skyrim that has not been converted over to FO4??
BaronofHe11
The textures have to be done in a exact way. I don't know all the rules yet. I do know if the size isn't exact the game will crash. Hopefully Beth will fix this to just give a warning instead of crashing the game. Textures mods will probably be the most popular on Xbox. This problem will crate chaos and ruin the modding scene on consoles.
kingculex
Thank you for this because it was helpful. The first time I had steam install this patch the game would CTD after a few minutes of play. I tried it on a fresh install of Fallout 4 with no mods as well as a modded version.I reinstalled steam and restored my game back to 1.2.3.7 with mods before attempting to have steam patch it to 1.3 the second. That left be with only a CTD caused by the Grafix Architecture which I was able to fix because of this forum. I wonder if the patch some how got corrupted the first time. *shrug*
Skitkjell
Well, it's not only textures that causes crashes as far as I know. Especially settlement mods cause a great deal of problems as well. Although those are understandable seeing as they most likely have fiddled around with the core game files. The texture issues are just plain weird. Eriagle
After spending hours and hours troubleshooting my random CTD's, I finally found out that some textures in "textures/architecture/quarry" caused random crashes here and there in open world. I'm using "Better Quarry Sites by LucidAPs". Haven't yet figured out which exact file is causing CTD since there is such an annoying amount of files, but I will post it here when I figure it out.   Edit/// Looks like all .dds files that begin with "qrystains" will cause CTD. Deleting those won't crash the game anymore. Edited February 6, 2016 by Eriagle

MelissaGT
I have one to add to the list - ConstitutionCloth_d.DDS. Unfortunately I do not know what texture pack it came from as I use a mish of manually installed textures based on which ones I like best. The file was excessively large (~25MB in size) and is only a 2048px texture. I opened it up in Photoshop, saved it with the Intel plugin and all seems fine now, and the file is back to a reasonable size. My CTD was reproduce-able while running past Haymarket Mall towards the USS Constitution (I assume when the cell with the Constitution loads). steve40
The reason for the crashes is the texture format. It appears that the 1.3 update has deprecated compatibility with certain texture formats that worked in earlier versions. The problem mods listed above had a few textures that were (accidentally) saved in an inconsistent format compared to the rest of the (compatible) textures.
