Fast travel mod Idea

Just an idea for the modders out there. I have a idea for a Morrowind type fast travel for Fallout 4 I know I'd use!

~Have a few Major settlements or POI that would act as a travel hub, here there would be Brahmin caravans or maybe merc's you can pay for a ride to one of the listed POI. Something akin to the stilt riders in Morrowind.

~When traveling from point A to B maybe have a % chance a Intterupt can happen stopping the fast travel at some point and you then encounter a raider ambush if hired a caravan and or a double cross if hired the mercs. or both. Depending on the player characters actions They could continue the fast travel or would have to then Continue on foot.

~Once reaching the Institute and gaining the ability to use their teleportation then this could possibly open up the vanilla fast travel system being it would make sense to have such an ability at a later point in the game. Obviously a quest or something would be done to allow the player character the chance to keep set ability regardless of status within the institute.

I just finished trying to get over Morrowind. Now you've got me all riled up to play it again.

Also probably more like the carriages in Skyrim but with brahmin. Unless you just want to ride brahmin-back. In which case I suggest brahmin or drinking buddy mounts haha.

I just have a hard time not utilizing Fast travel even with the fact that I feel the elder scrolls/fallout series geography is one of their best features. It just gets shot in the foot with a over bearing Fast travel. Something a bit more trimmed down yet allowing still the casual player who may be unable to sink such travel times the best of both worlds.

And even to this day I remember more about the lands of Morrowind then either oblivion/skyrim/fallout.

Well, I figure since you are talking fast travel ideas, I will post my "wish list" for fast travel in my ACTUAL survival mode style playthrough (more realistic)

What I was thinking was, instead of disabling fast travel entirely since that can be incredibly time consuming, it would instead require you to have a set amount of food / drink to actually make the journey. In addition to consuming this, it would consume a random amount of ammo, stims, etc (Simulating encounters on the way), and your player could arrive at his destination w/ health damage etc. This way, quick travel is available, but its a gamble. TO BE CLEAR though, I kinda highly doubt editing quick travel to this degree would be possible? But perhaps the next couple things will be doable..

In addition to this, Diamond City would have a carriage like you mentioned, and you would be able to build new ones at your settlements as you got them. Carriages would be a safer quick travel, but limited to other locations w/ carriages.

To give another use to settlements as well, I was thinking once you hit a high enough science, leadership etc, that you could possibly build a repaired vertibird at settlements, kinda like the signal ones from BoS.. giving you a very secure method.

Speaking of the BoS v-birds, these would suddenly be VERY useful as they would be a safe, secure way of getting around.

Sorry if my thoughts are a tad jumbled atm. Tired... but I think you get the gist of what I would like in a perfect world. I kinda doubt its all do-able though..

I like the settlement addon, that'd be a nice addition as well as more Vertibird usage too. The boats would fit too. All this sounds good lorewise.

I'm clueless as to modding so my thoughts was keeping things simple on the modders end. Ultimatly even just the carvan system at major settlements and the ability to add your settlements to the carvan route all makes sense and I would assume shoudlnt be too hard to mod.

Once we get into these encounters we've mentioned here I bet things get muky.
