Does your character use chems? Which ones the most?

I usually play hero type characters so in the past (F3 and FNV) I have destroyed chem dealers and users. But this time I am role playing as an old guy, so he needs chems to boost his abilities to make up for his declining health and aging. This has really opened up a whole new world in Fallout that I never had explored before.

I am now popping mentats and berry mentats all the time for XP before going into heavily fortified areas or turning in quests. I use buffout to give me the extra carry weight or when I need a boost of health during combat. I use a lot of day tripper when I need to pass speech checks. I also love to use x-cell to boost all of my SPECIAL stats, but it is rare so I save it, usually for the added intelligence when I turn quests in.

I don't use med-x, psycho, or jet very often. I have the toughness perk, so I don't really need the extra damage resistance that med-x or psycho provide. I heavily use VATS so I don't need jet to slow down time (it sucks that it no longer increases action points or I would be torching that stuff). I like how psycho increases my damage and damage resistance, but I hate that the character screams like a raider when he uses it (I am still a good guy - I just need a boost, not bloodlust). I usually only use these chems in emergencies, like when I am heavily outgunned, facing higher level enemies, or enemies like mirelurk queens or super mutant behemoths without heavy weapons

I also like to mix buffout and jet at a station - +3 strength and endurance in buffjet > +2 in regular buffout. I don't really care about the slowing time effect of buffjet, just the strength and endurance.

I destroyed chems in the past and broke up the chem trade because of how they were hurting the wasteland. The raiders are heavy chem users and addicts, and their usage contributes to their psychopathic behavior. In New Vegas the Fiends were preying on outer Vegas because they were junkies looking for a fix. I have viewed breaking up the chem trade as a way for my hero to reduce this raider activity and clean up the wasteland. That's why I wiped out the Fiends and the Great Khans who were supplying them.

I play on survival (end 2) and was a Psychobuff + Med-X junkie until around level 40. Still use psycho for bullet sponges but don't need the buff and med-x anymore. I also pop grape mentats for big hauls. I would use overdrive but can't find any (I've found maybe 4 up to level 56).

Fun fact, the Silver Shroud is a HUGE junkie! I decided to use the silver submachinegun to do that arc and it necessitated all the drugs at my disposal because even tricked out that SMG was like a BB gun vs tank for all the targets.

Scratch buffjet. I cooked up a bunch but have been saving it while I use my stash of regular buffout from the Henry Cooke quest. Buffjet gives +3 strength and endurance which beats regular buffout, but I found out the effect is short lived which just makes it a stronger version of jet. I was wanting the longer effect so I can haul my crap back to the red rocket gas station.

By the way, does anyone know where to find a good supply of anti-freeze bottles? I need it to make berry mentats. Can't beat +5 intelligence when you need to level up fast.
