Hickory
You don't have to create mods to get kudos. A kudo is just a recognition; an accolade of sorts. You can get them for all sorts of activities. Some people will give you a kudo for endorsing their mods. Some will give you a kudo for endorsing their images in the image share. Some will give them for helping solve a problem in the forums. Some will give you kudos just for being on their friend list. Don't take them too seriously. In the end, they don't mean a great deal.
Ranokoa
Being generally friendly and helpful will earn you kudos. Sometimes modders even give kudos to those that either playtested their mod or gave some bug report in the comments because its considered help in making the mod better. I know I have given a kudos or two for someone reporting an elusive error.
phoneyLogic
Members usually give them for saying "thank you". As said and you can imagine, there are various reasons for. They may help a tiny bit to keep interactions between members polite and civil. It's not a "stat" which is being so extensively gamed like the post count or the mod ratings. If one thinks you earn one, you'll get one. It doesn't really have a technical usage, but it feels good.
