What is borderlands about?

I don't recall a game with both a cliche story (you are a Vault hunter [thou you act more as a merc] and you will kill anything in between you and the vault) yet refreshing ( 'your a merc right? Good, go kill a Godzilla reference.')

It's also a for loot collectors due to the 6-million+ guns you can get, but keeping them tends to be a no-no (why still have a lvl. 2 gun with 64 dmg per shot when your using a lvl. 54 with 2048 dmg per shot?).

The shooting more fun as well compared to Fallout 3 or NV but still has it's share of bugs. The arch-types are pretty interesting too (even soldier boy), and the Goty's dirt cheep so no real reason not too own it.

The visuals are actually one of the best things, in a time of limited colour palettes (grey+brown+bloom="realistic") Borderlands was a refreshing change. Its unique look (because of how it's done it's not technically cel-shading) is one of the reasons why I think it still looks so good after two years, which I guess isn't that long of a time. Not to mention that the special elemental kill animations on human enemies never get old.

Furthermore, to simplify what Vindekarr said, the visuals reflect the attitude of the game. It doesn't take itself too seriously, this is a game in which you get revolvers that can shoot acid. Rocket launchers that shoot electric spread rockets. Shotguns that HOLY CRAP IT SHOOTS ROCKETS! (This kinda stuff is why I love Bulletstorm too, holy crap that game is fantastic.)

Also if you have to pick only one DLC, "Secret Armory of General Knoxx" is an easy choice. Although they're all pretty good for their own reasons.

In short, I think my main point is that Gearbox made a Borderlands keeping in mind that games are supposed to be fun. Probably why I'm so excited for DNF in a few months.

@Vindekarr Brick is pretty useful, but Sirens FTW. *fist bump* I mean, once you get Phoenix and all the "let's make cooldown a non-issue" skills you can pretty much rapid-fire Phasewalk.

I would actualy suggewst Robolution instead if only for the robolution loot bug: in the chamber at the powerstation where the controls are are dozens of lockers. If you're playing a Siren and have the Catalyst classmod fitted(with increased gold loot buff) you can get as manyu as 10 golds ands twice that number in purples. Usualy it's not just very valuable, but also endlessly functional. I onmce got 4 Pestilent Defilers(the undisputed monarch of guns here), and all the very highest spec defiler pattern, including one super-rare scopless version of the most powerful regular version, and also an Anaconda, a Dahl revolver of identicle stats to a Defiler, but in fire damage and with a longscope.

Getbacon however makes a good point: if you like longer games, and or are a collector at heart, Borderlands will keep you satisfied for a long, long time. Just go Siren if you like collecting, she has a supposed bug that gives her more frequent loot, and a class item that increases the chance of a gold.

Suidery: DNF? what's that?

I love Borderlands myself. Excellent gunplay, a funny storyline (Yeah, it isn't serious), and tons of good loot. Play in co-op for 2-4 people and it's tons more fun there too.

I'd suggest playing it even if you don't like FPS games that much.

Vin: Duke Nukem Forever.

They have mentioned the sequel, Borderworlds, but no official announcements for features or a release date.

Meh Golds, pearls are the we way to go, I can find so many golds and pearls in General Knoxxs dlc then any other. With the knoxx glitch round one "gameplay round 2", oh tested and tried many times, it doesn't brake the game once you are finished looting.

  • 2 months later...

Pick Lilith(Siren) she is best for killing Crawmerax.! :D

And for what its about just refer to other peoples posts.

But basically a recap. You're a Treasure Hunter of sorta out on a quest to find the "Vault" on Pandora. Its believed the Vault contained riches beyond anyone's wildest imagination. Im not going to spoil the ending for you, you'll just have to find out yourself. But you go collect pieces of the key to open the vault. you HAVE to get the DLCs for it (or the GOTY version).
