A DDoS is a Distributed Denial of Service. Basically, you send a massive number of requests for information. A request is something like asking the server to load information for you. When you send too many, the server gets overloaded and crashes. Some people use this overload to take down a server by using a large number of computers to send requests.

Yeah it is DDoSers can go screw themselves it's an annoyance to the people who love to download mods i had issues downloading the updates to Someguy2000's mods throughout the week they are all scum and deserve to be thrown in prison for cyber terrorism.

Agreed. The people who do this are just doing it for attention, as well. There's no political or ethical motivation,, it's not activism, it's just assholes trying to ruin other people's days to prove how tough they are. The other problem is, most DDOS attacks come from Eastern European countries like Romania and Bulgaria, which are either so corrupt, so lax in their policing, or both, that there's never anything done about it. Some Romanian asshole DDOS'ed my workplace and tried to rob us recently, Romanian cops refused to even contact, kept hanging up, kept claiming it was our fault for using online banking.
