Unable to start Nehrim.

Pretty much the title--I can't even get into the actual game.

 

If I use the shortcut that Nehrim made on my desktop during installation, I get two alternating error codes: steam error code 53 and application load error 5:0000065434

f I use the launcher to start Nehrim it's a little better, I can get the Oblivion launcher screen, but everything is greyed out except for the Elderscrolls.com and exit options.

 

The instructions on the readme .pdf make me wonder, should the Nehrim .esm and .esp be showing up in the same list as all my other oblivion mods when I launch Oblivion regularly? I don't see how since I was told to install Nehrim separately from Oblivion, so maybe I misread it...

I recommend you to reinstall Nehrim.

Use http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35263 - mTES4 to duplicate your Oblivion copy. - the interface is pretty friendly - more instructions are provided in the readme.

after you switch to your new copy - name it Nehrim for example ; copy all the Nehrim files there - after the switch the folder will be named as your initial Oblivion folder.

-start Oblivion Launcher - let it configure the settings.

-close it

-start Nehrim Launcher - update nehrim

then disable Oblivion.esm and all the other mods - it's best if you clone your Vanilla Oblivion ; and enable all the Nehrim related esms/esps.

-you can also configure your nehrim game settings

-start Nehrim.

 

This should do. I do not know if Nehrim works with the steam version tough - that may be a problem.

Nehrim does run with Steam but you have to be a bit careful. The exact instructions for Steam they provide in their Readme. Basically, the default method suggested by the Mod team is to place Nehrim as your main Oblivion install. It takes over as the Data folder etc. So you need to rename your old data folder if you want to keep it. You also can't use their provided launcher to play the game. You use your original launcher.

 

So it likely wasn't working for Sebiale due to Nehrim not being in the Steam Oblivion folder, and using the Nehrim launcher to launch the game.

 

Because of the replacement of the folder (and from the readme), you may get the impression you can only have Nehrim or default Oblivion operating. However, the data folder that your launcher will access is determined through the Oblivion.ini file. This means you can play both installs through having separate ini files (or ini edits in Wrye Bash), by changing the path information, i.e SLocalMasterPath=Data\ and font data (there is likely more but it's been awhile). Keep in mind this means you have to be more vigilant with installing mods, active mods etc. So profiles in Wrye bash become incredibly useful here, along with ini tweaks.

 

You could even have more install folders if you like. You could have an FCOM folder, etc.

Make sure nehrim.esp is activated, mine wasn't by default.
