moarx
I originally posted this on the Steam forums but figured someone here may have some idea of how to fix this, any help would be appreciated. I installed Oblivion last night (for the first time since reformatting ~2 weeks ago, it worked fine before) and installed Nehrim and at first everything was fine. I got to the main menu of the game itself but exited out to do something else. The next time I tried to launch Oblivion all of the buttons on the launcher were faded aside from "ElderScrolls.Com" and "Exit". I tried restarting multiple times as well as reinstalling Oblivion (probably 4-5 times now) and haven't had any luck. As far as uninstalling goes, I did "Delete Local Content" via Steam and made sure to delete both Oblivion folders (in Steam and My Documents). I've also tried running the OblivionLauncher.exe which seems to be fine until I hit play, which causes it to close and open up the broken launcher. Oblivion.esm is active along with various DLC .esp files (which I've tried disabling, still no luck). Asked around a bit and was sent to this: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic52317.htmlOblivion WAS missing from the registry but after following the instructions I'm still not having any luck with the launcher. For the install path I put "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\oblivion\" and also tried the folder in Documents->My Games and neither seemed to change anything. I tried calling Bethesda for the hell of it but they told me to contact Steam as it has to do with the installation, not anything they've done. edit: Just noticed that there was a thread roughly a month about the same issue, doesn't seem like it was ever resolved. (http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/318947-oblivion-goty-steam-help) I read through it a bit and tried disabling UAC, doesn't seem to have changed anything. moarx
Try reinstalling Steam outside the program files folder. Followed the instructions at https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129 and that seems to have fixed it, thanks :)
