nightrifle1015
Hi! I'm working on a mod that will have laser weaponry and I've come to a sort of crossroads. The mod needs to have battery blocks that function like magazines for balistic weaponry, but it is a laser so it also has to have the laser effects and sounds. My dilemma is this: Which would be easier or even possible? Using the lasgun as a base and somehow incorporating clips like a ballistic weapon, or using the combat rifle as a base and changing the fire effect, impacts and sounds to match a laser rifle? How would I even go about doing that? I appreciate any help you could give me. Edited February 6, 2016 by nightrifle1015
Junnari
I'd see the latter option easier to do, as most of this can be done by simply changing the ammunition and muzzle flash used by the gun. Changing animations is doable, but might be more complex to do.

Then link them together, changing the ammo's projectile reference to the copied laser projectile. The projectile attached to a weapons ammo controls muzzle flash, speed + arc of the bullet, the bullet (or laser in this case) itself, its damage, and pretty much all the other good stuff. Junnari
The damage is mainly controlled by the value in the WEAP instead of the projectile, although it can be increased by adding explosion effect that has damage set to it into the projectile. But otherwise that's pretty much the easiest way to do it.
nightrifle1015
Good suggestions. I was able to copy as a new record and get it to use MF cells as ammo. The effects and everything worked, so I have a better idea how to use this method when integrating my custom model. Animations are going to be a b&@*$, but it'll get done eventually. Thanks! robtest
You can mix and match all kinds of things between guns... I was able to put incendiary and the blue alien blast on compensators on a couple of my mods. I swapped the gun sounds on my Magnum 44 based guns because the vanilla 44 magnum sound set doesn't support suppressed sound changes...
