JanusForbeare
Ultima 7 (all four chapters, but especially The Black Gate). My god, was that game ahead of its time. The reasons I loved it so much included: -The completely non-linear gameplay-The massive world that could be explored at your leisure-A deep, compelling, multi-faceted main quest-Tons of sidequests to give the game flavour-One evil-a** villain (well, two, if you count the Guardian)-The immersive magic system (reagants, circles of magic, non-combat oriented spells, etc)-The need to eat, drink, and sleep-Deep and unique companions-The ability to move, steal, and use just about anything in the world-A spell that kills everything in frakking world. Seriously.-The ability to change kids in the orphanage and throw their dirty diapers at people The list goes on and on... There were other great games out there too, but Ultima 7 takes the cake. And now that I've typed all this, I think I'll load up Dosbox and re-install it. EDIT: I just remembered one more great part of that game: the secret island of naked women (kind of NSFW... but not really, thanks to '90s era graphics).
