HELP WANTED

We are currently in the planning proccess of creating a plug-in for the upcoming elder scrolls game, Skyrim. The concept we had in mind was to recreate and modernise the graphics of the first game in this popular series, The Elder Scrolls I - Arena. So far, we have three people to head up the development of this plug-in; one for the creation of new meshes, one for the adaption of the main storyline and the creation of any sidequests, and one to organise putting everything into the Elder Scrolls Construction Set. We are in the need of more people to contact us in the hope that they will be able to help. We require the following:

* People to aid with storyline writing. They will be working under a main storyline lead who will look over everything. We hope to make this plug-in completely Lore (all of the history and suchlike) friendly, but no previous experience in Lore or storyline writing programs is necessary. You do need to have some knowlage of the Elder Scrolls Series.

* We require as many people as possible to do voice acting. We shall be replacing all voices within the game. We shall provide all scripts, but all ideas will be accepted.

* We require people to make meshes. As we are recreating all of Tamriel, a lot of new meshes will be needed. Previous experience with any mesh making program that will work in conjunction with the Elder Scrolls Construction set would be useful, but is not required (you can learn as you go along). You will be working under the 'main-mesh-builder', who will check the suitability of all meshes. This also encompasses anyone who wishes to texture the meshes.

* We also require people to put everything into the Elder Scrolls Construction Set, being delagated by a main leader. We also need people skilled in coding within the Elder Scrolls Construction Set.

* Concept designs will be welcomed, but may not be used. All concept designs submitted must follow Lore. As well as landscapes, buildings, characters and beasts, we also require concepts of maps, and menu systems.

To participate in this Remake, either contact us through this post, or directly at [email protected]. You will need MSN to participate in this plug-in, because we will hold regular meetings over it. We are going to email Bethesda to inform them of what we are planning, to make sure we are clear of any copyright issues (which there shouldn't be). This may contribute to any form of portfolio for GCSE, college or university subjects.

If you wish to participate, we recomend that you download and play the original Elder Scrolls I - Arena from the official Elder Scrolls website for free.

We thank you sincerely for reading this post, and any help you could offer is greatly appriciated. If you think we have missed anything from the list of jobs above, please do not hesitate to contact us.

This might be crazy enough to work.

Well I can help a bit... well yes a bit not too much but a bit yes maybe.

Well I am pretty good at level designing and making a structure feel very real like it was made by the lead level designer of the game himself.

I know a lot about lore but never looked into Arena much to be honest. If we get enough people to help it might work but i have my doubts really.

How are you planning on creating a landscape that is infinitely larger than Skyrim, something that Bethesda has been working on for 5 years, and requires a many more different meshes for architecture than those in the Skyrim?

I remember a similar thread on the Bethesda forums. Conclusion there: have a look at the project and see at how realistic it really is. Why not start with recreating just the island of Solstheim from Morrowind for example? It has a similar environment to Skyrim so that saves you the time of getting meshes made, and it's much smaller so a lot more doable. But even that is a really large task.

I wouldn't bother with the voice acting either, at least not right away, it's very difficult to get that done on any large scale.

Look at the Tamriel Rebuilt project for Morrowind. They have been working since just before Morrowind's release (2002), and they're still working on it. Fantastic project, well organized. They're making good progress too, but they aren't anywhere close to done. They've almost released 3 maps now, out of 8.

And they're only doing the Morrowind province, and also have the advantage of not needing voice acting, and because Morrowind is an older game it's easier to create new architecture for it.

It's great to have ambition and dream big, but it's a shame to spend so much time on something if it's just going to collapse eventually.

  • 2 weeks later...

From the Post Creator

In addition to the help wanted section at the beginning, we have also realised that we need people skilled in the art of making trees, using any programs that are compatible with the Elder Scrolls Construction Set. Our preference at the moment is with SpeedTree, but we are willing to accept people who use other programs.

If you think you can help us with this, or any of the other offers of help, then please do not hesitate to contact us either through this post, or at the email address: [email protected]

Thank you very much for reading...
