A separate +18 (or at least not PG-13) chat room

As the title suggests. There's a bunch of NFSW content on site and all the games on the Nexus network are like +17 only, so it seems really weird we have to keep the chatroom PG-13. A separate place for the older peeps would be really swell, at least I personally hate having to always worry about saying something that might shock the kids, lol.

We also have to keep topics like politics, religion etc out of the chat, these could also be discussed there. I know there's the debate forum here, but I don't bother posting as compared to the instant response of a chat room..

tbh, realy dont think its needed just so a few swear words can be said ect. + the hassle of having more moderators, buying another IP chat package ect.

If you need to link to adult content hosted on the Nexus, just link to the page rather than the image. That way if a user doesn't have adult content enabled it will give them the notice instead of giving them the page.

As for politics: You can debate that in the chat provided it's not personal attacks and not spammish. As for religion: That's not allowed for a reason. It always turns into a flame war.

Adding an R rated forum/chat room would just be asking for trouble. I can see the FedEx truck pulling up with all the pronz trolls already...

Besides, the PG-13 rating keeps a lot of the less than reputable characters from the internet from trolling for too long. They usually get two posts and then nuked.

Also, having a religion forum would have dire consequences. o_O Troll city.

The internet is immature - that's a fact. And it is a sad fact that prevents those of us with some morals from having decent conversations. This is a sad fact indeed, but at least there are always private messages. :/

I remember when the game Acro first came out. At first it was all PG-13 type rooms, then later they added "adult only" rooms. The adult only sections were of course populated by little buggers who lied about their age and would say any naughty words with no thought or logic in the acronym puzzles. It was so irritating, I left the game altogether.

I agree with lux, imho, having a seperate room like that would be akin to sending velvet clad, gilded invites to those who already ride the fence on abusing their privileges in chat as it is! Sad but true *sigh*

Even if it was possible to do with the software Dark0ne is currently using (IIRC it can't be done as yet), it wouldn't really be viable unless made as a "Supporter Chatroom" where people had to at least have paid for supporter status. If that was done, I suppose it might make things easier for everyone. Why would you pay good money, even a small amount, just to be a total slug?

However, if all it required was that the user be 18 it would, as you said, Netwit, be an engraved invite asking the trolls to post porn, swearing and links to shock sites. As it is, we already had people take advantage of the fact that some terms for certain body parts aren't censored--one person kept shouting words to do with certain body parts, and they were of course removed from the site.

I once had a job which included chat hosting. I would not advise an adult chat room. It would just end up with immature visitors in both, and it would be twice as much hassle to manage. Also, it's not just kids who misbehave.

Yep, another good point: age does not equal maturity.

To be honest, I really think it might be more trouble than it is worth. People have used the supporter imageshare to post disgusting things too. :P

You really can't actually post imagery or mods in the chat, if you need to share NSFW stuff with a friend in there, there's always the Private Chat function. I'm an adult and rarely find the need for NSFW words. It's kind of funny but I see the need for an "adult chat" as immature.

As already said a few times, an 18+ only chat would only cause more problems. Yes, I get annoyed when a 13 year old kid comes in and tries acting cool using some stupid text language to try and fit in, but besides that, there's nothing wrong with the normal chat. If you so desperately need to swear or use bad language, pick up a dictionary and find a word similar that isn't NSFW and learn to kick the habit. There is no need for another chat.
