Be afraid, very afraid of Silence?

I had it handed to me by a single mage yielding a conjured axe, some ranged attack spell, and a silence spell. I simply chugged all of my potions and tuck tailed out of there to a vantage point...

..........

No.... I lowered the difficulty slider.... but I DID use up my potions.....

Should I take this situation uber serious in case of a next time? What's a pure mage to do a about this?

If you're a pure mage, that's what a staff is for. Well, one of the things they're for. Hell, I like to keep a mini-collection of useful staves on me at all times. They're more than worth their weight in usefulness.

This is also what Dispel potions are for. If you're a 'pure' mage, you should have Alchemy as a major skill, and can make your own dispel potions with bergamot seeds and ectoplasm. In addition, pre-made dispel potions seem to be fairly common in loot, at least for me.

... how is it possible I've been playing this game for two years and managed to NOT know that Dispel potions will remove a silence effect? That thudding sound you hear is me banging my head on my desk, repeatedly.

Hmmm, im playing on hard so a powerful crappy charge staff would likely run out before the task is finished, plus that's too expensive to be effecient. Im using a shield anyway.

The only strategy I can think of is use a summon and silence them myself, then maybe paralize them till my summon finishes them. Or create a custom paralize/damage touch spell while a summon keeps w/e else busy.

My mage is NOT equiped to handle other mages  I only have spells for dealing with fighters. Oh a fort full of necromancers will be so fun. Conjurers aren't much of a problem most of the time as they like to use melee weapons to make my life easier.

You really don't know what you're missing without staves. The Sanguine Rose, Skull of Corruption and hell your mage's staff with a paralyze enchant are your best friends on harder difficulties. They don't cost a single gold coin to keep up if you took 5 minutes to get Azura's Star, too. Soul Trap whatever comes out of the rose, you get the soul when the summon wears off. Edited by Chunhwa
