Hi,

I am having major problems with running Morrowind, sounds are causing incredible slowdown and stuttering. It seems to get worse when I have plugins added. I know my system is compatible with the game as I've had it running before (had to uninstall due to it taking over my life :) so Im running patched to v1.2. I have a 700mhz P3 with 512sdram and recent addition id a Ti4200 128mb and Im using a SB pci64 sound card, all the latest patches. However its with the sound card, that seems to be where the problem lies. Upon updating the drivers with the patch from the website the sound card install program didnt recognise my system to have a product of theres (??????) When I remove the drivers and let windows install them from a restart, theres no problem, they re-installl fine! I just cant use the web installer, even though they appear to beexactly the same types of drivers (???????) please any suggestions for sorting this out are warmly received.

Yeah the drivers from the website are the ones I tries to install, however they just dont install.........i get a message saying I dont have there product, but when I refer to the driver files in windows for the soundcard they are the same. I dont know if this is why morrowind runs so badly but its definately to do with sound because when in game it stutters and breaks up.

Alright I have had slow-down problems with sound mods also. I just removed them and the game runs perfectly smoothly.

But if you are having such terrible problems without any mods, then I'm not quite sure what it could be. Are you sure it isnt the video card?

Are you absolutely certain that you are trying to install the correct drivers for the correct product? Try removing them, rebooting, installing new ones, rebooting, and then try to run Morrowind.

What can I say sometimes Windows f@#$s up. I cancel an installation of direct X once, and even though I reinstalled a new one and tryed everything I could think of and got my techie sibling to help, it wouldnt let me play games. I had to reinstall Windows.

well, i noticed my sounds were a bit odd in game (no major problems, just some sounds not sounding properly like my footsteps etc) i just went 2 the audio options menu, and set it to software reliant (or something like that) and now its fine, have no idea if this will help or not, probably wont... but its worth a try right? ^_^ if all else fails, just try shutting the sound off completely :P

Hey thanks to all for your suggestions :) I have now managed to get it sorted, it took a re-install of original sound card drivers which i then upgraded as windows wouldnt let me upgrade the drivers I had installed already!!!.....also switching to software mode helps a great deal, now i get all the sounds :)
