Why does Bioware always have to cater to the newcomers to the Mass Effect series? This is the third game of a trilogy, and there are already 9 love interests across the first two games. Bioware doesn't need to add in new love interests for the idiots who start the trilogy with the third game. They should focus on more important things like gameplay or story.

Why shouldn't a gaming company cater to new comers? They can't work in existing fans forever.

Nope they can't. Its a business after all. End of the day they dont care who will be upset because they "broadened" their range, at the end of the day it's a big pay day.

Basic Explantion: Money.

As someone who frequently comes to a game "series" late, and then goes back to play the earlier ones if I liked the last one, I say there is always a need to reach out to new customers. And as far as making formerly unavailable characters into possible LIs, why in the world not?!?

If the romantic preferences and sexual orientation of the NPCs are essentially under the control of the player (based on conversation triggers and responses that the player selects) then no one has any cause to get offended/disappointed except as they themselves choose.

If I have played ME and ME2 and didn't choose/wasn't able to romance Ashley, then I guess I might be surprised to get that option in ME3, but I wouldn't be upset. Selecting the neutral response (or not selecting an "I've always found you attractive" conversation starter) keeps things consistent for me, while allowing new players to establish their own perferred relationships. Win-Win!

This. That's pretty mch all one can really say on the motivations.

And I'm assuming 'new love interests' would include characters like Garrus, which previously could only be romanced by the opposite sex, but might now be romanced by the same sex.

Also, I've never romanced anyone in the ME games, but if I have to, it'll be a gay Garrus (because female shepard just doesn't do shepard any justice).
