abetts94
This might be a long one but just hear me out because I know a lot of other people have had similar experiences but each one varies slightly so here goes. I haven't played Fallout 4 in maybe a month or so. I remember there was an update that I downloaded but I didn't play the game after that. I did, however want to start playing the game again yesterday. So I opted in for the beta which includes a few new things to the workshop and some bug fixes. I then went and downloaded something like 20 mods from the Nexus. Now I have never ever had a problem with any of the mods, my last save game was working flawlessley with like 40 mods installed. None of the mods are any that drastically change the game. I can't remember all the mods that I installed but most of them were settlement mods like Homemaker Settlemens Expanded and a higher settlement budget, Armorsmith and pretty much all the standard mods that everyone has. So, then I get down to wanting to play the game, spash screen opens up fine, but the problem occurs when I press play and it goes onto that old timey style "Please wait" screen or whatever. It stays on it for about two seconds, three at most and then the game completely closes. Just completely closes, no error messages, no glitchyness, just shuts down as if I closed it myself (Which I didn't). So then I'm thinking it's the mods, I uninstall Nexus Mod Manager but the problem is still there. I opt out of the beta, still happens. I opt back in for the beta and verify my game cache, still happens. I literally have no idea what to do now. Sorry for the absolute essay of a post but I just wanted to explain every small detail that might help someone who knows what's going on. If you need to know, I'm running on Windows 10, Intel Core i7 and a Nvidia Geforce 750ti and I can run the game flawlessly on High settings. Any help anyone can offer will be hugely appreciated. I'll also post this onto the Steam forums to see if anyone there has any ideas. Hope you can help.
Royhr
Have you tried completely uninstalling FO4 and flushing all of the folders/files related to FO4 especially the INIs and then doing a clean install? Also try not using any old saves. And do not install any mods at all until you can see if the game will launch and run. Then add the mods you want but as you install try running the game after each installed mod or small group of mods to see if it runs ok.

I've literally just finished re downloading FO4 now so I'll see what happens!
abetts94
Hang on, I think I might be onto something here... In between the last time I played FO4 and Yesterday, I installed WinRar. Could it be possible that because WinRar has taken control of being the program used to open files and has therefore changed the program used to open the FO4 files. Could it be possible that FO4 can't access it's own files anymore due to them having to be opened in WinRar?Like, is that a thing that can happen? abetts94
Nope. Still not working! I literally can't think of anything else it can be.I thought it might have been because I moved some of my files over the my Local Disc so I moved them back to where they were. I updated my DirectX. I deleted all the remaining files from Nexus Mod Manager. I verified my cache twice. I literally have a completely clean version of the game, there is nothing left on my computer that could do anything to interrupt the game. This time I got as far as where it says "Bethesda Softworks" and then it just closed. I literally have no idea what on earth the problem could be!! chaseydog
My experience has been much the same. I decided to play FO4 the other day after a 2 month lay off. Rather than picking up on my existing play through I decided to start afresh. I had about 30 or so mods in my last playthrough, all installed with Nexus mod manager and never had any stability problems or conflicts. Started off a new playthrough using a CBBE preset body the Kunio face and all my mods from the previous playthrough. No problems at all that day. Fired the game up a day or two latter and decided the CBBE body was a bit over the top and decided to go with the Glorious body instead. From that point on the game crashes right after the Bethsada screen. The only way I can prevent the crash is to either disable all of my mods or by disabling the esp's. I tried deleting the recently installed mods but that didn't solve the problem. I verified the game cache several times, no help. I figured I must have corrupted something in game so I reinstalled FO4, again no help if mods were enabled. Finally I deleted all my mods and reinstalled NMM, still no better. The game will crash if any mods are enabled. I think I'll try reinstalling both FO4 and NMM again taking care to ensure all the config files get deleated. Crimsonhawk87
It's most likely an incompatible texture in one of your mods causing this issue....there seems to be some problems with the new patch and some textures that is causing saved games to CTD. Start uninstalling all of your mods that you have downloaded or updated in the last few days and work your way backwards till either you solve the problem or you run out of mods. Once you are able to load a viable saved game, then start adding them back until you pinpoint the problem mod. Once you have found out what mod is causing the CTD, go to that mod page and see if there is an updated file that you can download, if not, then you will have to play without that mod. steve40
If your game crashes on the Bethesda logo it is most likely that you are missing a master or required mod. You can check this problem by running FO4EDIT - it will give you a warning if you have any required masters or mods missing. I had such a CTD problem myself: I use Armor and Weapon Keywords (AWKCR) but I accidentally installed a mod patch that was meant for Settlement Keywords (not AWKCR), and it caused CTDs because I didn't have Settlement Keywords installed. Once I removed the incorrect patch the CTDs were fixed.
chaseydog
Wiping out all traces of FO4 and NMM, including any config files, and reinstalling from scratch fixed my issue.
