MrPazuzu
My last attempt at modding Oblivion had gone pretty well some mistakes were made like installing a portion of FCOM with OBMM before I had fully figured out Wrye Bash and my only issue was incredibly low FPS and some CTD in cities. I figured I would remove the better cities mod and things would clear up but instead the game started crashing at the intro screen. After several attempts to fix my game I gave up and uninstalled. When I reinstalled Oblivion I found I was getting the same issue, a CTD before getting to the title screen. I've obviously missed something during my uninstall but I'm not quite sure what to do now. I've uninstalled again and I'm in a holding pattern until I can sort this out so any help would be appreciated.
HeyYou
If you haven't already, delete the install folder, and the one in My Games. If you have Vista, or Win7, reinstall the game to C:\Games\Oblivion.
bben46
Just deleting the game folders does not remove the Windows registry entries that the game places on install. If you do not reinstall in exactly the same place, those entries will redirect some parts of the game to the wrong places causing problems. To fix that I wrote a procedure for uninstalling, then reinstalling that takes care of the registry entries no matter where you reinstall. It covers several other problems also. It has been used by thousands of people over the past several years with a very high success rate. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.

If you have Vista, or Win7, reinstall the game to C:\Games\Oblivion. I'm running Windows 7 but my Oblivion is from Steam and I don't think I can change where it gets installed. I'll try deleting my oblivion folder and reinstalling.

HeyYou
Dig down to find your Oblivion install folder, find the oblivion.exe file, right click on it, and select Properties. (or maybe it's Personalize.....) Make sure it is set to Run as Admin, Disable Visual Themes, and Desktop Composition. See if that makes any difference. MotoSxorpio
Did you use the link Bben46 posted? If you followed this correctly, you should be set to go.
MrPazuzu
Solved! Somehow I had missed the "C:\users\your user name\My documents\my games\Oblivion" folder on my previous uninstall attempts with Bben's guide. I deleted that and started Oblivion without a hitch. Thanks for the help, now I can begin my modding adventures again :D
