Falloutlib.com?

What is Falloutlib.com?

I did a Google search for my mod, "Gruffydd's Signs and Posters", and found a link to it on this Falloutlib.com site.

Unlike a Japanese site that I also found listing my mod, it does not promptly link back to Nexus if you click on it. Instead, if you click download, it goes to a different spot where the 7z file for my mod appears to have been stashed.

Now, he does credit me on the page, but anyone who downloads from there will not have their download count toward my download count here, and has no chance to endorse or donate.

The page is covered with ads, so it's obvious he's making money from the site.

Even though he credits me, he is distributing the files without permission (and I did check the "No" boxes for my mod when I posted it).

Since he's making money from the site, I really kind of feel like he's stolen my work.

Am I off base here?

And he did steal your work. There has been a lot of talk about this in the Mod Authors forums. this is not the only sight to do this and some are a lot more offensive actively trying to sell Skyrim Char Presets.

My mods have been uploaded to sites like this too. You can try to file a report to his provider for copywrite infringement if your that upset. Many sites force the site to be taken down.

I'm only giving a simplistic explanation at the moment but if you have access to the mod authors forums there is a lot of threads and info.

edit: Got one of mine too!

Do you have access to the mod author forums? If you do then you could probably find some help there as there are several discussions regarding this type subject ongoing. If you did not give permission to let folks upload your mod elsewhere then it pretty much is stolen. There are several things you can do in response. If you don't have access to the mod author forum and do not already know what you can do in this type matter, then I will be happy to gather the info you may find helpful to this issue and present it to you, should someone else not do it first.

I don't think you're off base at all. Unfortunately I've stumbled across a couple of sites like that when I was looking for Fallout 4 content so I don't think this is the only one. If it was just providing a link to your page that'd be fine, but they've actually removed it.

Also, who knows if they've added malware, spyware or PUPs to the new download.

That was my thought, too. The other external site listing my mod was a Japanese site with zero ads on it that appears to be there to translate stuff into Japanese for Japanese players, with all of the links pointing straight back to Nexus for the downloads.

I have zero problem with that, because it means that if they want the mod they have to come here to get it, and nobody appears to be making money from it. Basically, they're advertising my entry on the Nexus to Japanese players for free.

The other guy, though, is obviously monetizing it.

I sent him an email requesting that he remove it. We'll see what happens.

Why you people so disturbed about finding your mods somewhere else? It is internet, and once you put something in it as freeware you should realise that this thing is barely belong to you now. We put some permissions on files but hey, it's just words, words in internet, words in internet cost less that electricity needed to write it on your monitor, if someone will want take your stuff he will do it. If you so copyright-full than publish your stuff with some DRM. However there is no DRM that wasn't/wouldn't be hacked. So relax. I just found one of my mod on this site, and you know what? I'm flatarned, because if some one still something from me it's means that it valuable.

Because contrary to popular belief, on the internet != free to use. Legally, I am the creator, owner, and copyright holder of the content of my mod. I have given legal permission for people to use it in their game, but not to take it and use it elsewhere to try to make money. So, yes, his taking it was quick and easy. But it's still theft.

I thought it was pretty cool that the Japanese site I found (that links back to Nexus and isn't covered in ads) listed my mod. I did not think it was cool at all that some schmuck is trying to profit off of my work and the work of others here.

I personally have two problems with mod theft:

1. Someone else makes a lot of money with adds using my work while I only get like one donation every 5k endorsments.

2. Those who upload my mod can add malware to it. And then they are distributing their s#*! with my mod.
