The latest and greatest near photorealistic graphics you are seeing in demos and trailers today is not going to be seen in the games you can buy today. It will be seen in the games you will be able to buy in 2 to 5 years. It actually takes time for that stuff to be perfected to the point where it can be incorporated into games, and then to filter down to the actual devs who can put it in a game.

Yes, It's possible to put this stuff into a game now. but it will still take time for the game to be made - usually 3 to 5 years.

Precisely. Take a look at this. It shows perfectly how the cinematic (i.e. trailers) are more detailed than the in-game footage (as shown along side the highly detailed character).

According to Game Informer it's trhe best not only in the series, but the best racer they've seen this year, they gave it a 9/10 and said it appeals to both hardcores and casuals to a high degree, summing up the new Gymkhana mode as (direct quote) "The most fun waste of time since Skate"

It is very good, it doesn't look as stunning as Dirt 2 but I would imagine that is because they need some of the resources for the weather effects.

True that, mine's the console version, but DiRT-3 doesnt look 100% like the trailers, close, but just not quite 100% identicle. Still, it's a very pretty game, and it looks just like what google shows the areas to look like. Michigan, once you get onto the forestry tracks, looks just like any real forest I've ever visited, we've got plantations of very similar trees near where I live in Australia, and it's so realistic as to be imersive. Not photo-real, but still stunningly stunningly pretty, especialy for little old DX-9 (little bloody hero)

I would also agree not quite up to Dirt-2, but hey, there's way more substance to 3 on gameplay. It's a pretty nice jump for the same engine though, since I pre-ordered I also got an enhanced copy of GRID for free with it(I love you EB Game-Traralgon Store, you guys ROCK!)

Grid's a game every racing gamer should own I think, totaly worth the ten bucks in the bargain bin, but more significantly it's based on the mark-one DiRT engine from the original game, playing it side-by-side with D-3, there's subtle changes, but it's definitely better, the light, the way things move, it's just much more a living breeathing world.
