Fenix

Wierd? No, not at all. Look...I...I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to know more about you.

He looks somewhat ashamed.

Sorry about your dad. Really. I never knew my parents, I don't know what is it like losing them. The only "father figure" I had was Walkie, the veteran merc who found me 20 years ago.

Fenix hangs his head sorrowfully.

Fenix

Too bad he got killed a few days ago... along with the others from the team.

Few minutes later, he turns to William.

Fenix

When are we going to arrive to this "Willow Creek"?

<tired> I need some rest.

Fenix

When are we going to arrive to this "Willow Creek"? I need some rest.

William

"Well its a bit late to sleep buddy we are almost here. Guys I am a bit new to this area so don't expect me to know everything okay? I am quite sure I am from the DC area. I hope I can go there one day to find that Vault 66. It would answer so many questions. I know you may think my talk is boring but we must understand history. Humanity made a big mistake once, and we must prevent it from happening again. The only reason I was not working for Brotherhood of Steel guys is simply because their ideals are to protect the technology of the past. We must expand and use it to continue rebuilding for a better life. If Enclave's main goal was accomplishable than I would be somewhere on another planet sitting in a bar drinking vodka. The destruction of the Oil Rig off the coast of California should have never happend. It would have been better if it was at least seized by the Brotherhood but just destroying it. "

William almost skips the location but sees that they are getting close and throws the throttle down.

he says. "Whats Williow Creek anyway? I have never been in Alaska before."

Hoage reclines on the co-pilot seat, snoring.

The throttle shifts, forcing him awake -

Hoage (waking out of it)

Bastard!

He catches everyone's attention.

Hoage

No...nobody worry about it.

He notices the map.

Hoage

So we're almost there?

Petra

Yep. Daddy took us here a month back. Before we went on the run...

A clearing lies ahead, amongst the forest trees.

Petra unstraps from her seat and walks to the cockpit.

Petra

Willow Creek's a nice place in the daytime. At night there's Silver Bats coming out of their nests, but now it's morning so...we won't get our blood sucked!

Hoage

What about these Rad-Otters?

Petra

They're...cool...as long as you don't corner em they won't try to bite.

She chuckles

Petra

And if you feed one then they'll be comin' from all around, swarming ya for food or fighting over any moresel you throw.

Hoage

So don't feed the wildlife?

Petra (jovially)

Yeah, and don't tease 'em either. Some rancher did that - ate the food and the rad otters ripped his throat out and tore his stomach open to get some munchies.

Hoage snickers, giving Petra a wink.

Hoage

I'll keep that in mind.

Petra grins, looking back out the cockpit windscreen (*that the right word?*). Something catches her eye.

Petra

I...think someone's out there! It's Mrs Brewski!

Sure enough a blood-drenched naked woman runs out from the trees - waving her bloody hands.

Hoage

Could be a trap! Will, hang tight!

Hoage jumps off the seat, reaching the supply locker and opening -

Inside, there's two Lightweight Rifles, A Winterised Combat Rifle, a trio of .32 SMGs and 10mm Pistols, and finally Frag and incindiary grenates. Boxes of ammo are organised underneath - regular .308's, .32, 10mm, 5.56mm and .22 plinkings. A half-eaten packet of rations and some dry stimpacks are underneath. This is the standard supply loadout for Vertibirds in the Coldlands Armed Forces, sans the Ruger taken earlier. Unfortunatley the ammo boxes and supplies aren't entirely full this time.

Hoage

Willy, keep the chopper at tree level till I confirm she's credible. Fenix, take what you need and give me some cover.

Hoage takes out the WCR and a few incindiary grenades, reaching the rear loading ramp and glancing over his shoulder to William -

Hoage

Open it up Willy!

*Can everyone try break up dialouge with just a bit of 'action' that shows, say, body language and other quirks, or at least something the character is doing. Take a look at Petra's little monolouge to Fenix for a good example. If you're having difficulty, just think of the facial, body and verbal language you or someone you know uses irl...or a character from a film or tv series at least. Remember, this roleplay has a script style to it, that means concentrating more on the 'visual' together with clear & concise dialouge - much like how we'd speak in real life. You're not writing an Essay on the Industrial Revolution for an English class/degree, you're writing a story with believable but extraordinary characters, an emotionally charged story and exciting action. Get the character across right, and the story takes care of itself.

Anton: you might wanna think of a way to restructure dialouge a bit - don't write huge paragraphs, either break it up a bit like I just mentioned, or cut down on what you might percieve to be unimportant - don't always say everything at once, and when you have to tell it, think of the simplest way to say it while still giving the exact message across and sticking to character. You didn't need an entire history lesson anyhow, so that can easily go. Get the first three to four sentances, reconstruct them a bit and maybe break em up if you feel to.*

As he looks out through the bird's window, Fenix spots the crazy woman coming from the woods. Naked. And covered in blood.

Fenix (turns to Petra)

Hmph. Is everyone so weird around here?

He smiles, as he was just kidding, but Petra looks like she didn't find the joke funny, especially since she just asked Fenix whether he thinks they are weird.

Fenix <ashamed>

Easy now, I was just kidding!

He taps her on the shoulder.

As Hoage opens up the locker, the merc takes out a Lightweight rifle, 2 frags, and some ammo.

Then, he steps next to Hoage, and waits for William to open up the ramp.

Fenix

So... here we go...

He loads his rifle, and gets ready to walk out into the creek.

*ProTip: Copypaste and save work into notepad if you don't have time to write or proofread everything in one sitting. Anyway here's some subplot to keep things bubbly.*

Greater Anchorage Research Labs

Taurus walks through the halls of the Research labs - coming to a solid, reinforced steel door - a Red sign labeled "RESTRICTED ACCESS"

Once serving the interests of the old world military, both American and Chinese, the abandoned labs were refurbished by the Northern Enclave upon arrival. Years later they serve the interests of both research and education, putting civillians through a rigourous training process where only a few earn their degrees. It is from here the purifiers were restarted and fixed, the advanced farming systems were developed and new weapons of terror, based on rejected and classified Enclave blueprints, were and still are built, benefitting both the people and Saturn's Golden Fist.

Taurus lets out a deep breath as the door opens - actually three different strong doors locked together, opening one at a time.

He steps in, the door behind him locking again while orange lights blare

Computer Voice

Decontamination process initiating, standby -Commander-

A moment later and an opposite door, high security like the last, opens. Taurus steps through...

Before him, an unconcious Sordo floats in a liquid tank. Tiny mechanical arms dig into his flesh - studying his wounds.

Sewing strange synthetic threads into his skin.

A metal device seems to cover the arm stump, fitting flush and concave in nature...

Quon (unseen. chinese accent)

Beautiful, isn't it?

Taurus looks above the tanks, at the Ghoul scientist standing on a catwalk, manipulating a control panel with screens.

Taurus

What are you doing to him?

Quon

Fool had flaws...what I do is simply...improve.

Taurus

Improve!?

Quon

Think a little...Nano-augmentation combined with delicate cybernetics. Yeah, who knows, it might convince the King to not waste resources on the icky business!

Taurus reels back in disgust

Taurus

So you're experimenting on my men!? You undying bastard -

Quon (Coming down the stairs and to Taurus)

Don't worry, if he fails...well, the Masked King won't have to replace you! And you can spend as much time contemplating what will never be with your life.

Quon brings his face right up to Taurus, and sneers.

Quon

And what you will never have...

Taurus lets out a low growl while Quon steps away...

Taurus

What are you talking about?

Quon (knowing smile)

Never mind.

Quon walks up to Sordo's tank, running his fingers across the tank's surface and to a control terminal, the keyboard unfolding before him.

Quon

Wanna see something cool?

Pressing a few keys, Quon makes the tank drain out the liquid - Sordo being fastend to an experimental table by the mech arms.

Quon

Let's give Sordo a little...upgrade.

Quon pulls a lever to the side. A claw brings something down...

A mechanical arm? Taurus seems sceptical...

Until the arm hovers over Sordo's right arm stump, hooking into the metal device.

Quon pulls out something from a box near the table - looking like a pair of modified Laser RCW's without the stock, handguard and capacitator, hooked together.

The ghoul scientist clicks them in place, using a decending power tool to drill the weapon into place.

Taurus

The old arm-weapons? Thought this project never lifted off -

Quon

It will now...

With a sinister smile Quon clicks in an electron charge pack, followed by two others...

Quon

The probIem was fitting the weapon system in while maintaing full functions for the arm. I came up with a little plan...needed a chance to finally test this baby out...

He looks back up to Taurus, the mutant studying the visible synthetic weaves on sordo's body, barely hidden under the skin.

Quon (giggling)

And then he rolls in half-dead, minus a arm. Ha-ha! Perfect!

The chinese ghoul leans closer to Sordo.

Quon

Wake up, sleepy head.

Sordo's synthetic eye flutters open...

His scream can be heard from outside.

William

You got it boss. *pushes the throttle down until they down*

Watch out for anything bigger than a sniper rifle. A hit with a rocket launcher or a magazine of a minigun is not too healthy.

Okay ramp open at 3, 2, 1

GO GO GO guys Ill watch out for anything. If you need fire support I am pretty sure this bird has some weapons.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While William positions the chopper - Hoage looks back at Petra and Aaron, the boy just waking up -

Hoage

Strap yourselves in and listen to Willy if things get rough!

William (from cockpit)

2...1...

Hoage (To Fenix)

Get ready Kid!

As the door swings open, Hoage grabs one of the three rappel cables wound up above the loading ramp.

William

GO GO GO!

Hoage rappals down -

Landing in front of the screaming naked woman with a solid footing.

Mrs Brewski

Helllp!! It's unspeakable!

She runs towards Hoage - the vet quickly putting out his hand and keeping her from getting too close.

Hoage

Calm down! What happened!?

Mrs Brewski

Tribals...savages! They killed my huh-husband and bled him out...all over meee!

She breaks down into uncontrollable sobbing. Hoage quickly scans the area from his position.

Hoage

Where are they? Where are the-

He sees them.

A row of 17 Tribals in various winterised armours and clothing, blue tribal markings showing their alligience, stand amonst the trees atop a small hill. Their skintone and features brought about by generations of breeding between inuits and other races forced to survive in the Coldlands. The Tribal Clanslord Qochata stands centre, wearing a blue-white chestplate taken from a set of Russian Combat Armour.

Qochata

You - minion of the Demon Lord Saturn - bare these words to your leader;

Hoage cocks the Winterised Combat Rifle, unfolding its stock and clicking it in place.

Qochata

We have cleansed this land of the very curse our people suffered for decades. Twas his own demonic manifistation - The Curse that Walks! It spreads like a fire, and still thrives across the Coldlands. We know it walks for the City of Men and Giants that you call Greater Anchorage.

The tribals suddenly stick out their ceremonial tomahawks, shaking them while letting out a chant that sounds much like booing.

Qochata

It must be purified - all who touch its aurora will grow corrupted. Their mind stays but their heart crumbles. By the order of the great Spirit - we demand you leave our lands!.

Hoage studies the lined up Tribals - they're armed with various pre-war weapons, kept in mostly poor conditions - chinese, american and russian guns, and an assortment of decorated melee weapons, some built by hand or improvised. Mostly Tomahawks.

Hoage

And what of this woman's husband? Bathing her in his blood!? You speak of a curse that corrupts and yet you perform such savage acts yourselves!

Qochata looks to his men, shaking his head and he returns his strong gaze upon Hoage.

Qochata

We simply slit his throat and hung his body so that the evil could leave, and he would join our Great Spirit in harmony.

Qochata points at Mrs Brewski

Qochata

She bathed in his blood out of her own will - and enjoyed it.

Hoage doubts Qochata, looking down at the Brewski woman...

Who eyes him with a sadistic glare, grinning to bare bloody teeth.

Mrs Brewski

It was so beautiful...

She starts sobbing again, like she regrets saying that.

Hoage

what the f*** did you do to her!?

Qochata

Silence, minon of the Demon. Leave now or -

Hoage

I don't serve Saturn. I'm just looking for a friend...a man we call Izek...

The tribals seem surprised - chattering to themselves, Qochata's eyes darting between his men and Hoage. Finally, he returns his attention to Hoage.

Qochata

We know of your deciet and dishonour, demon-worshipper. That; our people can never stand for. It is that which I despise through the hearts of my ancestors. That same deciet which lead to the twilight of the Golden Age.

He raises his ceremonial staff - actually a Thermic Lance - to the sky and lets out a loud crackle of energy.

The tribals let out a collective war cry, arousing their thirst for battle but harrowing to untrained ears - like madmen they charge with guns blazing for Hoage and the Vertibird.

William laughs

Haha mother****ers consider yourself dead!

*He turns to the gun noticing its quite old and starts mowing down the tribals*

*William notices that the ammo has ran out he leaves the verti-bird at hover and runs to the weapon storage. He tries to find the ammo for his rifle. He finds a couple of magz and opens the the hatch a little. Enough to peer out with his sniper rifle and try to assist the team*

Fenix quickly ducks behind a tree, with an "I knew it!" look on his face.

He lobs out a frag grenade right before the charging tribals. One of them, who was careless and didn't notice it, got blasted, while the others halted till the grenade gone off.

He looks up to the Vertibird, and shouts up to William in the cockpit, even though he's unsure whether he'll hear it.

Fenix <angrily>

Come on, you damn zombie, do something! We're gonna get slaughtered down here!

Not sure that he heard it, but those miniguns finally started to sing, mowing down the wildmen.

Fenix <relieved>

Finally!

He takes a peek at Hoage, making sure he's doing okay.

Fenix <thinks>

Hmph. The old man sure knows how to take care of himself...

The merc leans out of the cover, and sends a barrage towards a tribal coming from the left, not noticing his friend, who got Fenix flanked from the right.

The tribal raises his club, and...

*not totally necessary to kill the tribal, nobody died from a hit by a club...

Hoage fires back with the Ruger, wounding a few tribals and crippling one.

From the hill Qochata eyes the combatants, Thermic Lance in hand. Behind him, three Tribal Marksmen start climbing the trees with amazing agility.

Hoage dodges swings from machetes and tomahawks. He sweeps one tribal off his feet and unloads lead into his body before firing controlled shots at other ranged tribals, keeping as many as he can from getting too close to the bird.

Another tribal tries to slash him with a machete from the left -

Hoage quickly blocks it with the rifle, the buttstock breaking off. With smooth motion Hoage rams the rifle into the machete tribals gut, then punches him in the face. Suddenly a round grazes against Hoage's hip - The merc falls into a prone.

Hoage (groaning)

These guys are fierce...

Mrs Brewski tries running as far as she can - tripping over a rock and smashing her face on a tree stump.

Hoage quickly looks for Fenix - A tribal suddenly clubbing at him and engaging in melee.

The vet tries to shoot - his rifle's out.

Hoage (Shouting with hand signals)

Will! Cover Fenix pronto!

A Rocket Tribal aims a One-Shot RPG at the Bird, far off from Hoage's position.

Hoage

No ya don't a**hole!

Getting into a crouch Hoage swings the rifle onto his back and pulls out his 9mm and .32 revolver, before breaking into a sprint firing -

Rocket Tribal (interrupted)

Ack! Someone kill the Senile one!

With that two tribals with tomahawks try to double team Hoage.

The vet responding by unloading as much ammo as he can - killing one and causing the other to fall to his knees in pain, Hoage wasting no time to quickly swipe the survivor's tomahawk, smack him in the back of the head and then rushing for the Rocket Tribal - only to be tackled to the ground by a Big Guy with a Blade Gauntlet -

Smiling, the Rocket Tribal aims for the William's Vertibird.

Big Guy (Pinning Hoage down and holding the blade fist ready)

Repent Blasphemer!

Hoage closes his eyes as the Big Guy attempts to strike...
