allahisbored
I myself have a nice collection of authentic japanese katanas, wakizashi's, and a few of the rare nodachi's that are called dai-katana's in morrowind. A number of these are ANTIQUES that have been passed on by my father's japanese side, with swords ranging from the early feudal period 14th century of Japan, to the Meiji Period, where the last real swords were created. All of them were crafted and made by perhaps the finest swordsmiths in Japan, we have some collectors who are trying to piece together where exactly they came from...They are all battle ready of course, sharp as the day they were made...not that my dad lets me touch em or anything... to even get a look at the blade i'd hafta be as sneaky as one of the ninja's that held them  The crown jewel of the collection is this magnificent blade, unhilted, with the etchings of the name of a great swordsmith on the blade next to where the hilt attaches to the blade. (I'll get back to you when i remember the name of the guy :D) It was said that the great emperor Tokugawa was the owner of this sword...But until they find out for sure, we can only assume :D. I also have a blunted katana that has been passed down..dating from around 1860...only antique that i can practice my kendo with...hmm kind of odd that the blunted sword came from the time period when a certain legendary Rurouni was around hitting people with a blunt sword. :D hmm. LOL. serious.
Racius
Heh... I have a friend who does Japanese swordplay in his Ninjitsu lessons (with wooden swords of course) but he also owns a battle ready Ninja-To, which is (from what i have seen) a git to maintain... Like the oil for the sword has to be applied in a particular manner, you cant put too much on the blade, you have to keep it at the right humidity levels... i could go on if i could remember half of it :s... From what i remember hearing of the ancient Japanese swordsmiths techniq's for creating thier swords, like banging out and folding a piece of metal hundreds, maybe even thousands of times they must have been patient ppl...
