WinterRanger97
Hi all, hoping to get some answers here. Recently, I began working on a mod that adds a new wasteland to explore (I know, I know, real creative), but I'm having an issue. Specifically, I want to add some music. The default stations are fine, but I want to add a new station, as well as a couple of scenes that would be 10x better with a couple of songs I have picked out. (Specifically, Yellow Rose of Texas.) However, I am at a loss. I see absolutely awesome radio mods posted on the Nexus, but then I see posts from the mods (Like this: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3810705-will-my-mod-be-allowed/), saying that some music cannot be used. So, here's the question. What music CAN I use? Is all music off limits? And, if so, why are some mods, like the awesome CONELRAD mod, allowed to use songs that I have no doubt are copyrighted. Wasn't sure quite where to post this, but any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.Thanks.
sullyvanj93
you can post anything and everything that isn't copywrite. That's someone elses property, and you cant redistribute it without their consent. So anything you find that ISN"T copywritten, you should be safe. Music wise. You can talk to people on soundcloud and see if any songs of theirs would be usable. you can research if certain songs you have in mind are public domain now. You can buy usage rights of songs from artists that you REALLY want to include but they ARE copywrite. Just get it in writing. Basically the world is yours. Unless that part of the world is already someone elses. Then it's theirs, not yours.
madmongo
There may be some mods out there that contain copyrighted music, and it may just be that no one has reported the copyright violation yet for that mod. So just because you see a song in a mod doesn't necessarily mean that you can use it. You can use anything that is in the public domain. There are a few sources of public domain music on the web which you should be able to find fairly easily. You can also use copyrighted music, if you get permission from the copyright owner. Most modders don't do this, because copyright owners tend to want money in exchange for use of their material. It's easiest to stick to public domain music. WinterRanger97
Much thanks to both of you. Fortunately, a lot of the music I am looking at has had renditions done by governmental bands / is in the library of congress. Thus, they are in the public domain.
