Some of My Textures Have Suddenly Become "Soupy"

Try this... I "warn" you,it WILL increase your load time a lil bit but hey, no ugly ass textures so I'm ok with that, get the configurator by Bilago, incase you don't have it already, and go to iTextureDegradeDistance0, iTextureDegradeDistance1, iTextureUpgradeDistance0, and iTextureUpgradeDistance1, change these from default, since they are pathetic in distance. I just said YOLO, yes.. I threw that into this comment, and I set all of the above ini settings to 5000, to avoid ANY of the ugly ass pudgy textures, so far I have been good, just with slow load times and a minor, but tiny bit noticeable FPS loss, maybe like uh....... ?? Like 4 FPS in some occasions, but otherwise I get solid FPS everywhere, and its all HD textures, no slow ass mud ones.

ALSO something I noticed that you should be aware of - I personally have believed for awhile that hotkey-switching weapons in combat or after fast travelling or something causes your gun to not show up and you are left vulnerable, YEAH, that stupid glitch that is notorious, I believe that has to do with loading textures, its like the textures take the most priority to load THEN weapon switching and sounds and stuff come after, cause only when the muddy textures update does my gun usually switch, so that is why I think that, but ever since I decided to try this out the glitch has only happened like twice in my dozen hours of gameplay since the change.

So I believe with these couple line edits in the ini, the gun switching problem is solved as well, a two birds with one stone situation. Try it out :D

Interesting. If I go back to FO4 (probably) I'll try this.

Funny you should say that about the hotkey thing. I totally think that's the case. If I'm out in in the wilds with not much going on around me, the hotkey thing seems to work. As soon as I get anywhere near where the game gets "busy" (for lack of better words), the hotkey bug rears its butt-ugly head. In some of the really heavy areas downtown - forget it altogether.

Started having the same issues a couple of days ago, but as of yesterday (Saturday 12) It's ALL textures of any kind of walls, floors, containers, EVERYTHING, bar objects that have been ameliorated through mods (using the Vivid series for trees, rocks and landscapes, among others)...

First, texture loading times acted indeed funny, waiting a while before showing the details. But now most objects are just a blurry mess all f asudden, to the point it's not fun anymore strolling through the game. Even supermutants lost their details :(

I'm just wondering why this has happened all of a sudden? Updated the game to the 1.4 version a week ago, so, why would the textures wait a week to become blurry?

Not sure, happened to me but the ini edit seems to have fixed it for me.. maybe just your CPU? RAM? Graphics card?

You mean, like, my CPU (i7-3770k on an AsRock Z77 Extreme11), RAM (KHX Genesis 4x4GB), GPU (MSI R7970 Lightning) would just stick-up their middle finger after having done the job normally up until now? Sure...

the problem is definitely within the game itself they f***ed something up with their patches by making the textures load as you go it has just made things worse. i want the long loading screens back so everything is loaded at once!

Well, loading times didn't improve at my end, for either of the patches. And detailed textures don't load at all for most --if not all-- vanilla textures and even quite a few mod's 2K and 4K textures I've added and which showed without any probs even when my GPU started to sweat under the strain...

Tried those settings and concrete walls (the Covenant type) show more detail than before, but still not like it should be. Since loading times didn't really improve for me --I still can hand-roll a cigarette in a lacklustre fashion when moving inside/outside-- there also doesn't seem to be any deterioration. Am not sitting with a chronometer next to my PC to measure, but as far as I can tell loading times are pretty much the same as they were before applying the changes with the config tool...
