how can adding higher HD textures fix the stutter and soup. wouldn't that make it worse because bigger textures more loading time?

Big files don't always mean quality. Bethesda used a lot of 2048x2048 textures but with very poor quality. If and when you encounter a mod which has "only" 1024x1024 textures, but with a high quality, in the end, you get a better in-game picture with a lower strain on the card.

Have been considering a step back to NVidia and a GTX980ti, but the price is way too high. Think I'll go for a Sapphire Strixx 390x which I can pick-up at just below €300 (compared to the 800-plus I'd need to cough-up for a 980ti), as an in-between. Besides, as long as my R7970 can pull the load in highest settings, hey, why bother? ;)

well my 780 ti can't seem to cut it anymore and the more mods i add the worse it's getting i've had the 780 ti for 2 years it's had a good run so up to a gtx 980 ti next. price is of no consequence since it will last me at least 3 years even when the new pascal ones come out they won't be much better

Hi

I use a 980 ti & play the game at 4k. This is the best looking game I have played at 4k & the terrain textures look beyond belief good at that resolution. Strangely the team that did most of the clothing should get the axe.

When I tested the game at 1080 to see what people are talking about the game looked like mud. Even at 1440 the game's look dose not come close to the 4k look. In Skyrim there is an only a miner difference between 1440 & 4k look.

My game with an i7 & 980 ti dose not stutter in the open even at 4k. I get miner stutter If I use the pipboy light source indoors. This is very rear.

At 900 hours played I have only gotten 3 CTDs. All caused by "Body Slide" & all fixed by mod updates. I run about 40 mods.

After the last update I get one or two "soupy" textures every 10 game starts. Still not good but an improvement over to what it was.

Having a powerful GPU & CPU is still not enough to have next to trouble free open world modded gaming. You also need high performance HDs/SSDs & Windows can only see one or you will loose a good part of that performance. To prove this to my colleagues at work I ran this test. We all have Photoshop CS 6 on our computers. I use a 10000rpm 1 tb Raptor with i7 4 core. The rest of the 3D department us a small SSD with a tb HD with i7 6 core. The 2D department use standard HDs with i7 4 cores. It takes approximately 5 seconds to start up PhotoShop on the standard HD, 3 seconds on the SSD/HD combination & only 2 seconds on the Raptor. The SSD on its own would easily beat the Raptor but saddled with the slow HD it has no chance. It is the same story fetching data. If you have 2 drives not in Raid, Windows is not your friend.

This is all meaningless to anybody who just plays "level load games" & none modded open world games. They don't need to beat the limitations coded into the game.

I had over 2500hrs of play with only a couple of CTDs, but since I've upgraded to the 1.4 official release, it's been crash-time every ten minutes or so, plus that everything turned to smudge bar the optimized files through 2K and 4K mods...

Am running 195 mods, 157 plug-ins...

have you tried messing with Bilago's config? i turnd off Vsync in performance and also choose recommended settings for texture loading and unchecked force update defuse only and it seems to have helped.

Yep. Not much changes. Major amelioration was with HalkHogan's mod, though.

Also re-installed my game and all mods (took the better part of 6 hours) and things have worsened in that, now, I have constant CTDs on top of partially blurred textures...

I think I'll go back to the 1.3 patch. Will lose a few mods as some more recent ones only work with the official 1.4 patch and I won't be able to load my current saves :(
