Feedback required: file database tagging

100% compatibile
With what? Vanilla Oblivion or 8,000 other fan-made mods? Regarding fan-made mods, I do not think it is possible. If I create a small one-item mod and it conflicts with OOO, that means OOO and my mod would need to have this 100% compatible tag unchecked and wouldn't really help in terms of searching/filtering mods. Maybe a tag about not "breaking" vanilla Oblivion such as quests, dialogs, rooms, etc.

100% no errors
Oblivion doesn't even hold up to that one and is a bit subjective. Maybe a tag saying "Works as designed" but even with that, I'm sure this particular tag would be abused by people that don't know how to install mods or don't follow the readme instructions and incorrectly tag mods. hmmm...

Don't let their not be a new spells tag and a modified spells tag.
I have this one include in my list as well but with a categorized prefix of "Magic" in the name.

You can add:

OOO compatible

MMM compatible

OOO incompatible

MMM incompatible

just to stop people asking that a hundred times in the mod thread.

also, OBSE-requiring (or whatever the expression for it is).

Usually it's put to readme and file requirements, but should work well as a tag.

As some one who has spent the last several days pouring over this and other mod sites in search of mods this is a GREAT idea!

I think the list that has been started is a good start. The main thing lacking currently is the tree structure with cross references. You need the broad categories, sub-categories and cross-references to have a good file system.

e.g. A simple armor mod that only changes the color of glass armor would be:

Armor -> light -> glass -> appearance; Tags of: armor, light, glass, color, appearance. Some of the tags should be simple descriptors while others should be actual categories.

Further example:

Clothes

  • Shirt
    • Re-Texture (tags: clothes, shirt, texture, changed)
    • New
      • Male
      • Female
      • Unisex

      [*] Magical

    [*] Pants

    [*] Shoes

    [*] Cloaks

    [*] etc

Secondary tags can be used to designate file/mod status: Active (i.e. updated with in a certain time period), inactive ( no update in a certain time), whether the creator has said final, WIP, etc

And going off of what Arilita said... tags for expansions & overhaul compatibility: e.g. KOTN, SI .. or patch version

Also I think ORE has done a good job dividing up the houses into categories, except there is plenty of room for cross-references.

House -> Castle -> Large (base it on total # of rooms?) -> Quest / buy / free

or

House -> Castle -> Quest -> large / medium / small

tags (NPCS, services, lab, armory, guards, unique features, servants, shops, cheats, etc)

When I am searching I should be able to steadily narrow in on what I want or eliminate what i don't want. e.g. Some people may not want a house mod that uses any re-textured items.

I hope this offers up some good ideas.

Ebannon, I don't think this is what the OP had in mind. Dark0ne gave a link to a web site using tags the way he is planning on implementing them. Those are good ideas but I think he just wants suggestions for tags in this context.

Karandras, you missed it. It is labeled "Environment - Weather"

...the uploaded files all lost their description tags, meaning all from 'my 1st mod' to 'Lhammonds best diceroll' now share the name 'file' - hopefully only temporarily
Unfortunately, Dark0ne posted a note saying that the Chinese Script Kiddy was responsible for gaining access to the database and wiping out the filenames. I suppose the kiddy figured out the correct SQL code and used SQL injection to do his/her nasty work. (despicable). I've already edited each and EVERY file I uploaded to correct the confusing name. Thankfully, Dark0ne modified the code so authors can change the filename of already uploaded files. :D

Naalu Naiglemez, updated list. Thanks.

Arilita, I understand the reasoning for "000-compatible" because of all the questions but it's just another fan-made mod. So why would it be fair to other modders if you also didn't have "every's-mod-compatible" switch as well? Just playing devils advocate here.

I do think the "required" tag is a good idea. I added it to my list but in a more general way as to keep the amount of tags down to a minimum.
