Geps
i was interested in become a permanent premium member since i've been using this website for quite a while. And the 39.99 GBP isn't that bad, i decided to just do it.so i picked lifetime membership , ended up at the paypal website and logged in.to my great surprise paypal was showing me an tax rate of 20% on top of 39.99 GBP.is this some setting you made in ur paypal account or something? im not going to pay 20 % taxes on this, thats just insane. (i also tried the "donation" option, and it didnt add the 20 % taxes on that}
KDStudios
I believe this depends on your country. The tax is made by your government I believe.I had a tax on my supporter membership although it wasn't as high. This would appear naturally in any transaction across the world, tax affects everything these days.
Geps
perhaps but 20 % doesn't seem right., im not paying 20 % thats ridiculous.
Dark0ne
The sites have to be VAT registered by law now, and anyone in the EU has to pay UK tax. The VAT rate recently got increased to 20% in the UK (in the last budget). It's EU rules I'm afraid. Trust me when I say it is very annoying but utterly unavoidable. KDStudios
I agree, I would be shocked just as much as you are. £48 is very steep compared to £40.But then again tax is unavoidable so if you want it you're given a decision on whether to accept that or to not bother. There are other subscriptions though if you're not willing to pay that much, such as the 12 and 6 month subscription fee which is much cheaper depending on how long you expect to be visiting the nexus. So if you're intend on becoming premium but don't want to spend that much, I'd certainly go for the others instead :) Edit: Yeah exactly what Dark0ne said, I was writing this as he said that :P Edited May 29, 2011 by KDStudios
Geps
well, thats just crap. but why it didn't add taxes when u pick "donation"? or is that something you can set in ur paypal?oh well, ill just think about it then, thanks.
Thandal
... but why it didn't add taxes when u pick "donation"? Because donations aren't subject to the VAT in the UK, (don't know about other countries.)
roquefort
... but why it didn't add taxes when u pick "donation"? Because donations aren't subject to the VAT in the UK, (don't know about other countries.)You aren't buying anything with a donation, so there's no added value, thus no value-added tax. You'd pay VAT on top of the advertised price on software purchased from outside the UK (e.g. from Steam). It's just a fact of life.
Geps
life sucks then XD anyway, perhaps i will still get the premium, i just had to get over the initial shock of seeing 20 % added. even with the tax its still not that much.it was the first time i ever encountered this with paypal, i make regular transactions with paypal ( mostly to US) and i never been faced with unexpected taxes added on the advertised price. thanks for the replies. Thandal
... i make regular transactions with paypal ( mostly to US) and i never been faced with unexpected taxes added on the advertised price...Just you wait! The various States' sales tax people are gaining more and more momentum, (with reason, I might add.) And even in the US you've probably experienced some "Taxes and Fees" sticker shock during on-line checkout before. (Did you ever buy an airline ticket through Expedia or Travelocity a couple of years ago, before those things were routinely included in the "advertised price"? They can easily double the cost of a trans-Atlantic fare! )
