SPH1 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) I know there is/was a mod called Seasons of Skyrim, which I assume changed the seasons while you play. Mod appears to be down. Anyway, I am just getting into "immersion" mods, and with Climates of Tamriel I sometimes switch to it's Winter Edition, making all of Skyrim's exteriors snow. Interesting to see Riverwood and Rorikstead covered in snow, especially with Wet & Cold mod blowing more snow. Really adds to the immersion with either Hypothermia or Frostfall. Does anyone know what "dates/months" in Skyrim go with what season, for perhaps manually changing from and back to winter? How long it typically takes to complete a "year" cycle (if it does)? As it is, I may just switch every few levels or when I think it's time. Thanks. Edited March 7, 2016 by SPH1
burn70 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I cant answer your question but there's a mod called "a matter of time" on nexus, it displays the season, time, date and moon phases all in a configurable widget, is quite excellent :D
melkormgc Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Well I am alternating Skyrim Winter Overhaul, the default mode, and Summer Skyrim (did not try it yet) based on the Tamriel calendar. Just google up "tamriel calendar." Also the mod "A matter of time" will tell you what season it is. This approach kinda works ok with the survival mods. Even though I have to wear much more stuff than the NPC's (I use Winter is Coming and the cloak mods). I remember how great Daggerfall was. It changed seasons by default. The landscape would become snowy in the winter. Aside of the NPC behavior this is how I get closest to simulating seasons.
burn70 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 To try and assist with doing what you're doing with the seasons like that i can suggest Skyrim Spring overhaul by AcidZebra, all snow is gone but it rains, and for Summer try ACEEQ's Summer Overhaul v1.21 snow is all gone and it never rains, although Aceeq is on nexus the summer mod isn't, you will have to go to his site for that one, just google Aceeq you'll find it.
Rubbermatt Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Combining Enhanced Landscapes winter module and DynDOLOD means that Skyrim is winter all the time. Because Nords are stoic & hardy and all that. "Wife we go to Summer Palace near Falkreath, where it is baking hot ten below freezing!""But husband we will surely cook in that heat.""Ah but we take off mammoth hide cloak, heat not problem then.""But husband ..... people will be able to see my ankles!""Da!""Oh husband, you are so .... daring." Plus it just looks cool all snowy and icy, like Narnia (before those pesky kids ruined everything). With dragons.
SPH1 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the replies! Did google the tamriel calendar and got this: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Calendar Looks like I should manually switch on COT's Winter Edition at the month of Frostfall/October and turn it off maybe around mid Rain's Hand/April. I experimented with A Matter of Time mod, but only to show the time of day. May just manually check, though, since I now like no HUD or the mod iHud...for more immersion. Or keep it always Winter, since Skyrim is in the north? The mod Skyrim Winter Overhaul looks good, in that it not only turns Whiterun hold into snow but also the city itself. COT's Winter Edition only handles the exteriors. However, Skyrim Winter Overhaul appears to be down/hidden. COT and its Winter Edition looks like the easiest to switch back and forth with, so I'll try that in conjunction with the appropriate months. BTW, when testing with the Frostfall mod, with just regular COT I went bare chested with just ragged trousers from Helgen to Riften (to get the horse Frost) with little stress. When I turned on COT's Winter Edition, that stopped cold. I'm currently settling on the Hypothermia mod and it appears to kick in also. Or can that just be my imagination....? (Been side tracked tweaking my copy of the original Castle Strunmah mod; and it looks good with Winter Edition.) Edited March 9, 2016 by SPH1
Boombro Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I experimented with A Matter of Time mod, but only to show the time of day. May just manually check, though, since I now like no HUD or the mod iHudCheck the mod MCM, there are day, month options. There are also toggle options. The mod Skyrim Winter Overhaul looks good, in that it not only turns Whiterun hold into snow but also the city itself. COT's Winter Edition only handles the exteriors. However, Skyrim Winter Overhaul appears to be down/hidden.Look up enhanced landscapes, an updated version is there. If your system can handle enbs, I also advice to look whisper of winter, a mistveil ENB preset. Amazing for such runs. BTW, when testing with the Frostfall mod, with just regular COT I went bare chested with just ragged trousers from Helgen to Riften (to get the horse Frost) with little stress. When I turned on COT's Winter Edition, that stopped cold. What do you mean? And please, don't such two mods together.
SPH1 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) No, not Hypothermia mod and Frostfall mod together. Tested each individually. Both are good and have pros and cons. Right now, I'm settling on Hypothermia with iNeed for food requirements. Can't get my horse - Strunmah - at (my) Castle Strunmah to eat with iNeed, though, even after setting it as a player horse. I was successful with a horse with Alternate Start's Camping setting; don't know what I did different. Saw that on A Matter of Time last night. May go back to it since looks like can have it off most of the time. I built my own PC a year ago this month specifically for Skyrim. My old machine was getting old. It plays very well for a $350 or so AMD/APU (no dedicated graphics card) build and is a world of difference. Seems to handle everything I've yet thrown at it thus far. (But then I don't play Skyrim with one eye on FPS or TES5edit. Seems like many do.) For lighting I'm just using COT's indoor (warm) and dungeon esps. Experimented with RLO and ELFX - both good but didn't stay long with either. I have 2002 hours in Skyrim (not counting offline mode) and until recently it's always been about the house. Trying to get away from that, although I'm back at Castle Strunmah messing around.. EDIT: Or do you mean not Frostfall and COT's Winter Edition together? YES! Seemed to go hand-in-hand, as I had to build campfires outside Whiterun city with Frostfall and Winter Edition. Not so much without Winter Edition. _____________________________ My Stuff: Cracked Tusk Keep Tweaked: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71322Ruined Whiterun Farmhouse Tweaked: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68392SPH1's Rorikstead Farm House: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68880SPH1's Saxon Norman Rorikstead Fort (adopted from Draig77): http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71690Helgen House WIP: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72123L-shape Whiterun Farm House: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72368 Youtube: Mounted Horse Combat: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tmdH_zdDm8&feature=youtu.be Edited March 9, 2016 by SPH1
SPH1 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Yes! Using iHud to link all widgets removed widgets from screen for both A Matter of Time and iNeed. Now only have to hit the hotkey to check. Great mod and tip. Thanks.
Boombro Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Or do you mean not Frostfall and COT's Winter Edition together?Nah, meant Hypothermia mod and Frostfall. And NP brah.
