Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.5 Ghz

4 GB DDR2 RAM

Radeon 5770

I got bottlenecked by CPU on Oblivion at maximum settings because my clock speed is relatively slow and it didn't use all the cores. Hopefully, if Skyrim has full quad support, I should be better off.

At the same time, I am plotting to plunk $2,000 on a new gaming desktop anyway. Never really had a rig that could eat just about every game out there for lunch. Just seeing if my older rig will be fine.

Alrighty here is my current laughable setup. I played Oblivion on on high (minus noted settings)

A Pentium D Dual Core 3.0 (recently "upgraded", upgraded as in we had a better processor laying around and it was one generation newer)

Intel 946 PL/GZ Board

Nividia 9400 GT 1GB (so it says :P) Graphics Card, Canyourunit.com reads it as 512 MB for somer reason.

A UX1 Pod Studio (gutiar interface), makes a surpisingly good external sound card)

4GB Ram (computer reads it as 3GB physical though, kinda od but htey aren't matching brands)

When I was playing Oblivion I actually had a PNY nVidia GTS 250 which ran it very well, Fallout 3 looked good to but I think I my Pentium 4 HT Processor kinda held it back.

Possibly upgrades

The first upgrade will probably a decent new graphics card somewhere in the 150-250 range, but probably realstically no more than 200$ ANy suggestions? I had this one in mind

Or possibly this one

If you have a better suggestions please don't hesitate.

Another thing is that my mother board is ancient. That will be next to go, i am debating weather or not build a setup that uses full atx or just replace the current mobo with micro atx, thats par for the course.

Possibly cpu would bre an AMD Phenom X4 3.0 Ghz or better (quad core obviously)

Ive also considered possibly maybe jut getting rid of the Pentium D and getting a 3.2 GHz Core 2 Duo. I wish i get a Core 2 Quad 3.2 Ghz however my mobo will not accept that kind of processor.

I am also considering the practicality of all this generally I play games on Xbox but certain games I prefer on PC (such as fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Battlefield) for fairly obvious reasons. Mods mods mods

TPA5: Well, depending on how large Skyrim is, the SSD drive might not be big enough.

If you purchase a small one, yes. But I would hope most people have the smarts to purchase one that can fit Skyrim, if their intention is to indeed run Skyrim off it.

My post about the NES aside, I actually have a legitimate question that I'm seeking an answer to.

Right now, I'm running a decent machine with a very modest graphics card,

I have a dedicated GPU, ATI Radeon HD4400, and I also have an on-board ATI Radeon HD4200, which I can set up in crossfire if I wanted to. What I want to know is if setting these cards up in crossfire could actually increase my GPU's performance enough to play Skyrim on medium settings or so. Any opinions on that?

This is what I got, and I'm sticking to it until I get enough funds to do so otherwise. I think it'll work fine:

CPU: Intel core i5-2500K Sandybridge 3.7Ghz turbo boost (should be able to get up to 4.5 when I overclock it).

GPU: EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB (not the best, but def not the worst either).

RAM: 4GB G.Skill Ripjaws

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB.
