Frustrated with Game

Recommended Posts

The combat in the first game wasn't great but I prefer it to the combat in the sequel. Cast Quen, run in, bash people till it runs out, roll away, cast again, rinse and repeat. It gets worse when you upgrade Quen so it reflects damage, you don't even have to attack enemies, cast Quen, run in, get hit, roll out, cast Quen again and so on. The unresponsive controls and wonky targeting don't help either. Great story, great characters, excellent voice acting, a fantastic world and garbage combat.

Iron Warrior:

I, too, was having a HORRIBLE time at the beginning of the game, the same as you. I hate using WASD and wouldn't buy any game that had this control system but I loved the first Witcher and made myself play TW2.

Keep playing!! I really does get easier to use the control system. You will be surprised. I know it seems you will never get it but you will. I'm talking from experience. If you run into problems go to Youtube and the forums and type in the search section what your problem is. There is always something there to help you. I've done it for that dragon on the bridge (that seems so obvious now  ) and the Kayran.

Meant to update this last night. Holding the "S" key worked great! First time I died, but I moved around a bit the next time with the "A" and "D" keys.

Unfortunately, my journey was short-lived. I "like" how the book says the jailers are no problem and QTEs. Define "no problem." Let me ask this and I'll quit badgering everyone.

"What key sequence do you use to defeat that fat jailer?"

I see letters pop up on the screen and tried to press them but I still got my azz kicked soundly. I'm not sure if I need to be holding the left or right mouse button WHILE I press the pop up letters or something completely different.

As another aside, thanks to everyone for being polite and helpful. I honestly thought I was going to get flamed to oblivion for posting a "lamer-gamer" thread. Glad I joined this place. On another note, I only found out about The Witcher two weeks before W2 came out. I was in a local Gamestop waiting for a pizza to be done next door and saw W1 Enhanced Edition in the bargin bin. It was only $12, so I thought I'd give it a shot. That $12 led to me sinking $130 for the W2 Collector's Edition! (ha-ha).

UGH! That jailor sequence  I couldn't do it either at first and actually had my husband come over and call out the letters. How lame is that? (BTW, that didn't work.) Now I go looking for fights

What I did was put my fingers on ASD (this is before the fight) and mentally THINK where the letters are and physically touch each letter. Sit there for a minute and do this, then resume the game and I was winning

Maybe this will help you also.

One other thing I didn't find out until later in Chapter 1. If you don't want to watch a cutscene you've seen a billion times because you lose or die, you can hit the left mouse key to skip it. Why doesn't anyone tell you this stuff? Maybe I should start a thread.

Yes initially you will be doing hit and run tactics but I guarantee you, once you start "upgrading" your gear, particularly your armor it gets exponentially easy and you are able to tank stuff with relative ease.

You're not kidding, it's gets ridiculously easy later in the game. :psyduck:

You got that right...later in the game the combat is just as easy as the prolog was hard . I just don`t know if i will be able to find or have the willpower for the 16 different endings though.

I hope this isn't considered a spoiler, but I'm stuck at the second dragon sequence in the prologue. No matter what I do, I die...over and over. I read "how to's" online, but it didn't do a damn bit of good. I just die again. Even setting the game on Easy and turning off Difficult QTE Events doesn't do any good. As I mentioned, I suck at these type of gaming shenanigans.

You mean the part where geralt runs through a bridge carrying king foltest? you just have to keep the down (S) key pressed to run and, when it higlights, press the right mouse button. Its not that hard, just try to hit rmb as soon as you can

Want to keep things hard? dont use Quen. Actually in the original stories (the novels) geralt never uses a sign like that, or at least i dont remember...He sometimes uses Aard, an axii to hypnotize people. He mainly relies on his mutant sword skills and speed
