  1. I know you should use the "F" key (I'm playing on a PC) to toggle back and forth between first and third person but the "F" key doesn't work. Its stuck in first person mode. Do any of you know what could be wrong either with my keyboard or some other settings in my computer? I appreciate any help....thanks
  2. Use your "Z" key. A bolt of something shoots out of the medallion and lights up everything important. Another hint: If you don't want to see a cutscene again or listen to previously heard conversations hit the right mouse button and you will either skip the scene or move quickly through the conversation. I was well into Chapter 1 before I figured that out
  3. Yeah, this game certainly doesn't "hold your hand" and lead you around. You have to figure out EVERYTHING, look everywhere, and talk to everybody. The guide is little more than a suggestion on how to do quests. After playing DAO for months, TW2 is like a huge, complicated puzzle. I love TW2 but it certainly makes you work for every single advancement or quest you earn. Things are not handed to you at all. I've had to get on the GOG forum three separate times because I could not find something, or fiqure out what I was supposed to do next. With this game I do feel I've acomplished something though.
  4. If you need to see a tutorial again (I agree, it goes by to fast and its so SMALL) hit "J" to open the journal. Up on the left hand side there are pictures to click on and one of them are the Tutorials. The print is much larger and it won't disappear on you  Also, there are character pictures so you know who you are looking for in the quests. I found this very helpful.
  5. Good call about the cutscenes! I figured it out purely by luck. I was randomly pressing keys and buttons to see if there was a way to get past that cutscene before the jailers and just happened to press the LMB. That little icon popped up and, I screamed, "Dear, God, yes! I want to skip!" (ha-ha). Would have been nice to know this from the get-go. The only way I found this out is that I was PISSED that I had to watch that cutscene with Roche AGAIN for the 20th time (this was just before the first fistfight that I could'nt win) and just started clicking left, right, middle...UGH! Then I saw that little, tiny icon that said "skip". Oh my, was I a happy camper. Believe me that there are others (the Kayran) that you will be glad to have that "skip" button for ;D
  6. Same message error i got when i tried to update the patch manually with 2 different versions of the 1.2 patch . After uninstalling and reinstalling the game and patches via game launcher everything is normal again . I, too, had to uninstall and reinstall. When you click on the Witcher icon (the launcher) the patches update. I know, I know, it takes forever to reinstall this game. I had to do it twice today
  7. Alright, I uninstalled the game completely, when it askes. Even the saves  ..........But, when I reinstalled, the game installs patches 1.1 and 1.2 automatically. I thought I would have to start from the very beginning but somehow the saves were in there and I could continue on from where I left off. I don't know how but all my saves were there so SUCCESS  Geralt now has a new hairstyle and some armor that magically appeared in the inventory and I couldn't be happier. Thanks everyone for the help
  8. For myself the only thing i`ve noticed so far is when playing the dice game the text for roll and bet are not there as well as the ability to change difficulty level . AFAIK gameplay wasn`t affected . There are two ways to get the 1.2 patch via the launcher or manually at http://www.en.thewitcher.com/patch1-2/ Which patch should I install? The directions say I should install 1.1 first, then 1.2? This is terribly confusing. I sure want all those available downloads though. If you are on the original version straight from the box then you need to install the 1.1 patch first before installing the 1.2 but if you are already on 1.1 then just install the 1.2 patch . Just a hint : This game is very particular when it comes to antivirus programs so i disable mine temporarily while installing the game and patches . That's what I thought that I'd have to install the 1.1 first then the 1.2. Thanks for the tip about the antivirus. I read something about that too but NEVER would have thought to disable it. Thankyou  I CANNOT install 1.1. It says the game is invalid. It also says to uninstall and re-install and 1.1 will be installed when I do this, then patch 1.2. Does this sound correct? Will I have to start all over? UGH! I AM SOOOOOO CONFUSED :pinch:

  11. I guess I'll try this then. I've been reading that some bad things happen after the patch. So far without the patch, I don't notice that anything "bad" is happening. I would like the downloads though. I have the Mysterious Merchant and some armor from ordering from Amazon I'd like to add. Not to mention Troll Trouble. I appreciate everyone who's answered my question
  12. YIKES! I don't want to uninstall the game. I'm just at the tail end of Chapter One....and I don't want to do the Kayran battle again  I guess I'll wait for my second playthrough.
  13. I'm a little confused about all these patches I've been reading about. I have a retail game. Are these patches for the retail game or the downloaded game from GOG or Steam or both or all? Also, when I click on the icon to launch the game, there is a "line" there for downloadable content which is not highlighted and doesn't work if clicked on. If the patch is for my retail game can someone tell me where to get it? thanks in advance
  14. No you don't.... Well, I certainly did  It took me over 4 hours and a gazzilian reloads to finally do it without resorting to begging someone for a save game (which I almost did). I'm not that good, yet, with the control system to manipulate Geralt and I couldn't tell where those tentacles were going to drop so using Quen helped me a lot!
  15. Ahhhhh, but you sure need Quen when you fight that blasted Kayran :whistling:
  16. I hope so too but DA2 was made in 2 years and look what happened to that  BTW, I didn't take the scientist's offer to experiment on me.
  17. UGH! That jailor sequence  I couldn't do it either at first and actually had my husband come over and call out the letters. How lame is that? (BTW, that didn't work.) Now I go looking for fights  What I did was put my fingers on ASD (this is before the fight) and mentally THINK where the letters are and physically touch each letter. Sit there for a minute and do this, then resume the game and I was winning  Maybe this will help you also. One other thing I didn't find out until later in Chapter 1. If you don't want to watch a cutscene you've seen a billion times because you lose or die, you can hit the left mouse key to skip it. Why doesn't anyone tell you this stuff? Maybe I should start a thread.
  18. I didn't use the trap either. But I sure did use the Quen sign....a lot! I remember there was a choice to take Sile or not but I took her for all the help I could get for this fight. And it seemed I did get all the "goodies" anyway.
  19. Iron Warrior: I, too, was having a HORRIBLE time at the beginning of the game, the same as you. I hate using WASD and wouldn't buy any game that had this control system but I loved the first Witcher and made myself play TW2. Keep playing!! I really does get easier to use the control system. You will be surprised. I know it seems you will never get it but you will. I'm talking from experience. If you run into problems go to Youtube and the forums and type in the search section what your problem is. There is always something there to help you. I've done it for that dragon on the bridge (that seems so obvious now  ) and the Kayran.
  20. Thanks MarkoBG, Last night I must of run around in Flotsom for over an hour looking for that blacksmith. Is there a special "time" to find him? Would you call him a "craftsman" or a "merchant". I swear I run in circles and the one time I decided to try a different door I ended up in a forest fighting nekkers (and dying-see previous post).
  21. So, this is the way to do it? Really  I guess when I go into the forest I'll just meditate and take potions on the off chance a nekker(s) will show up AND WATCH THE TIME CLOCK! ........and I must, must, must, find that blacksmith (I saw him only ONCE) to get my silver sword :P
  22. I have a question........ In other games you take potions as you need them not before a fight you don't know that is coming. I keep running into nekkers (and other things) potionless and of course I die. Then I have to restart, meditate, take the potions, then try to kill the things I just had run into. Is this correct? It seems stupid to me that you have to die to know you need to take a potion. In the first Witcher you can take a potion when your stats are going down.
  23. Since Geralt has discovered the tavern he can't seem to stop dicing, boxing and arm wrestling  I don't think he cares anymore who killed Foltest or what a Nekker is :ohdear:
