Frustrated with Game

I got through the Kayran and did it with out any armor. This part of the story taught me a lot about 'hit and run', how to use the signs to my advantage. Felt great at the end of the fight. While frustrating at first, once one gets used to the commands and knows what they do, things are moving along fairly smoothly, and I love the fact that you really have to think out some kind of strategy in the fights. I did not car for W1, but this game has sucked me right in, really enjoying it and simply beautiful to watch. I'm well into part two. This is what a good game is all about.

Many thanks to those who explained how to get past the dragon.

Also, at this point, full agreement with those who hate the combat system. I eventually got used to W1, this one is even more basically a console game that happens to run on the PC. I don't play twitch games, i depend on being able to pause and figure out what to do next. So far every combat with more than one attacker is an ordeal, even on the Easy setting, and i hate having to reload three or four times for every combat. I've had to skip the incense quest entirely. It's a little encouraging to read that it gets easier, but i'm not sure i would have bought the game if i'd known.

Incidentally, the difficulty setting has disappeared entirely. I can't tell whether i'm on easy or normal. Any ideas on how to get it back?

Ahhhhh, but you sure need Quen when you fight that blasted Kayran :whistling:

No you don't....

Yeah, it really isn't necessary, but it still feels like insurance to me. I like to know that even if i am going to get smacked by a giant tentacle that I will still be a live and kicking. Anyone else find it weird that they never remotely said to climb up the rock and initiate a cutscene? Because i stood there wondering what to do and I realized I could walk up the dilapidated pillar, but it still looked like I was just glitching up a wall instead of dashing up one. (which would have been awesome .)

Well, I certainly did  It took me over 4 hours and a gazzilian reloads to finally do it without resorting to begging someone for a save game (which I almost did). I'm not that good, yet, with the control system to manipulate Geralt and I couldn't tell where those tentacles were going to drop so using Quen helped me a lot!

As I found out (the hard way) I too started with the Quen, thought it would protect me..HA! Keep in mind I did not have any armor on save for my gauntlets (yes, I'm a gluten for punishment, but it is a real challenge) After being smacked around for a while I finally used the Yrden and placed magical traps around as fast as i could. Using the Yrden traps a tentacle...you can figure out the rest. None the less, keeps one quite busy for sure. Listen to Sile as you're fighting, I finally figured out what the heck she was yelling at me during the fight. LOL! :woot:

Follow-up: Guys, ignore the last post about the jailers. I resorted to mashing the "D" button and for some reason, it worked and I made it through.

Thanks for your patience! I'm plodding onward.

You don't even need to remember which letter is what. Try to watch not what letter is showing up but WHERE on the screen it appears. It it's near the top, hit W, at the bottom, hit S, to the left hit A, right hit D. they match up to the directions the keys move your character, basically. It's much more instinctual when you realize the location they appear in is an additional clue to what key to press, and can rely on more peripheral vision.
