Donathor
You can always make a save by hitting Esc and then there is an option to save. I tried, but the option to save is just not there. You can't save during cutscenes and QTE's either. Which in itself isn't a problem, but it should have autosaved right before the fistfight. I'm looking for the skip button now (where is it?) and maybe switch to keyboard-play, hoping it will show the buttons suggestions, which it doesn't give when playing with a gamepad. Edit: I discovered that the skip button during the cutscene appears sometimes and you still have to use it a lot of times. When retrying the fistfighting, which was easier when I taunted one of the guards first, I still had no key-suggestions. But they became visible after I had died a couple of times more. Maybe a glitch? Anyway, glad I got through.... on with the story. Edited July 26, 2011 by Donathor
BarefootWarrior
Just a suggestion. First off, thankfully, there are not that many QTE's in the game, that is unless you want to fist fight. But, for the QTE's, don't look at the action, just look at the screen and let your peripheral vision work and have your fingers on the keys. I'm an older player and not hard core like a lot of folks in here and I'm just not that fast on the key board anymore. The QTE's drove me nuts. That being said, I did some fist fights just to get better at it and it worked. I do agree that being able to save just before a fight would be helpful, rather then starting all over again, but being able to 'skip' is helpful. I'm now on my fourth play through and playing at 'normal' and in some parts I kick it up to 'hard'. The challenge for me, as some folks in here already know, I do not wear any armor. That's just me and I enjoy the challenge, and I have done pretty good. This is a beautiful game, and it does have a bit of a 'learning curve' to it, so hang in there and there will be many times that you will have to back up and go at it again. Just go with it. I think this is a game that one does not want to rush anyway, it makes you think about what you want to do. Just thought I'd throw this out there.
Donathor
I gave this game another 20 hours, but it gets only worse, so I'm giving up. In all the years I've been playing games, I've never seen something as unplayable and frustrating as this monstrosity. None of the minigames work, the quests are impossible to follow or comprehend, there is no sensible communication with npc's, skill development is useless and the stuff you can find all around, most of the time in stupid places, is equally pointless and useless. I've tried making more sense of it all by reading endless hours in manuals, guides and walkthroughs, but this hardly helps. Besides, it's tedious and really stupid that you have to quit playing in order to be able to play.It really has come to the point where I hate this game so much, I can't see any reason to spend anymore time with it. Even the great graphics are no longer a reward for all the trouble. It's a shame and I hate to give in, but I guess it's better to stop wasting my time. swordsman5
I guess we all have games that hit us like that.....I had the same with Drakensang.....gave it a miss for a time and then tried it again and enjoyed it, the same may well happen for you with this one. BarefootWarrior
If nothing else, just let it sit for a while. I was totally frustrated when I first started, but after DA2...I figured what the hell..and kept at it. Glad I did now.

I know what you mean. And don't feel bad if people are saying that you "suck" or whatever, they just don't get it. This is the reason why I find the game's combat needlessly complex. If you are designing a game you make it fun and worth while to new players while making it hard for better players. Any failure like this highlights that if CDRED wants to expand they need to rework their system to suit new players more, not just existing fans. Shiny graphics isn't going to win you any favours. dragonbird
I'm in my '50s and have slow reflexes.I'd never played a real-time combat game until a few months ago.I was TERRIFIED of TW2 after hearing about all of the combat issues. Now I play it on "Hard", and when the next upgrade comes out later this year and we can go to a more difficult mode, I'll be doing just that. The combat system is complex, and does take some learning, but when you know it, it's incredibly flexible with, usually, a multitude of different ways of killing your enemy. That being said, a game is supposed to be fun. If it isn't, then by all means stop playing. Different games suit different people.
BarefootWarrior
I agree with dragonbird. I too am in my (cough) 50's and while I still have good reflexes, I still fumble with the keyboard. But since I work with computers on a daily basis, I have learned to simply get up and walk away for a while. I do get frustrated at times, even with working some of my own projects. TW2 was a 'learning' challenge for me and there was a lot of frustration at first. Now I have advanced from normal to the hard level and am doing pretty good. Plus I don't use any armor and that adds to the challenge. I enjoy this game because of the challenge and you do have to think about what you are going to do, not a hack n' slash like some other 'recent' games. If a game just gets you frustrated and upset, then it's not for you. I hate to say that, but there you have it. Or, as I said in my previous post...just let it set for a while and try later. Not all games are for everyone, and for me, I can use ME2 as an example. Which is odd as I love sci-fi, but this one did nothing for me and it now sits on the shelf. My moods tell me sometimes what I need to play...lol. When I really need to release some..ummm..tension,(bad day at the office kinda thing) I turn loose with Halo ODST or Reach...heh. I always feel better after that. I for one can hardly wait for the next in the Witcher series. We humans are funny critters, eh?

Me too on ME2 :) I know it's supposed to be a great game, and don't dispute that, but I just couldn't get interested enough to go through the learning curve. I suspect that I just don't personally like sci-fi games. I also left TW1 on the shelf for about 3 months, after getting slaughtered time and time again during the Prologue. It was only after I went back to it that it finally clicked and I found out what an amazing game it was. That was my first real-time combat game, back in May this year.
