Face Customization

So I'm wondering whether the modding community will be able to make gold out of the lead we've been given to work with when it comes to character customization (namely the face tools). It doesn't really make sense to me, given the fact that (based on what I've read so far) if FO4 is built on the same engine as Skyrim, how is it the FO4 vanilla face customization tools churn out such unrealistic looking crap in comparison?

I mean look at this http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68311/?

They're effing gorgeous, it makes me cry to see what we're stuck with in Fallout lol.

Ok, ranting aside, there is a point here. Will the GECK (if it ever gets here /tapsfoot) potentially open up a wider variety of facial construction ability to get better results like the Skyrim example above? Or are we forever doomed to look like cartoon characters crossed with cavemen?

Anyone else share this opinion? I mean there are some decent preset examples people have uploaded to the hair/face category but nothing that compares to the overall quality from Skyrim IMO. Is it possible to port over faces from Skyrim?

Beth can do so much, but seemingly refuse to do so, for whatever reason.
Save money, time?

Or just do not have the taste for it?

Whom knows...

But IMHO: Geck alone will not be enough, one needs the base files as well (DDS/NIF/...) to make things better.

GECK surely will be a great help, but not a God tool.

No.

You can add hairs now, but unless Kalilies move games and ports his mod, a hair mod as good may not come till a bit later.

Making good hair mods is a rare skill my boy.

Plus, this is not face, it hair.

Why not both?

I know, I was using that example because the faces he used for his screens were so realistic looking. I especially like the silver haired one. The hair is awesome too, but yeah.

Far as Bethesda and their seemingly poopy efforts making this game compared to others... makes me wonder if they slacked on purpose to encourage modders to do their work for them. Free labor lol.

Or three?

Could be they think beauty is what they give. XD

No one ever proven Beth has good taste, there.

Think of the "TES 3 Elves", butt ugly bastards right there. lol

Slacked? I don't know, the face options are rich and the skin is seamless with a clay system. There is also body muscle and fat options. It much money, time and work wasting than making good textures by long mile. They could have gone with Skyrim system with some tweaks to save a ton of money if they slacked.

Textures overall are bad in the game, maybe thanks to for it port.

Or the orcs. My god.

You don't win the game expect by making someone that looks good. Grow on you though.

Fallout 4 is the only beth game I was happy making a person in. Even with mods in the past games, I was hardly happy with what I have made.

I love & hate the character creation tools. My Characters look fantastic but getting there is a chore. I prefer the slider system in Skyrim, enhanced with ECE or RaceMenu.

I think the main issue is the mouth. Since it is designed to sync dialog it is a limiter. It reminds me of a Bioware character creator, so I use the same technique I use with those games.

I design around the mouth instead of around the eyes like I did with Skyrim, Oblivion & Fallout 3/NV.

It works for me so I am happy.

I hear ye, though them Orcs, I think, were still somewhat OK.

Here's a pic of a High Elf/Altmer:

But seriously, if you told me about Elves, THAT is NOT what I would expect.

Even the Dungeons and Dragon Drow or Warhammer Dark Elves are GORGEOUS.

And they're evil. XD

So, fu... dge me, these are just horrible.

Now THIS is a High Elf:

The Noble's among the elves.

The Noble's among the elves.

Not to be rude to you, but that is a bad idea. And I'm sure that is a dunmer from eye and skin color.

All pretty looking elves are from lord of the rings elves, and pretty much all elves in fiction look like it. That is just a lazy rip off. And they don't look that different from human expect the ears shape and that hardly sets them as another race than humans. They look like human with a defect than spread to a whole colony or something.

TES mer have different tone, skin color, eye color and skull shape than even each other. Going human with ears is like erasing that and going main stream to meet people options.

They are not even elves, they are called mer. And I think mer look good in Skyrim.

Here are elves with the windsong mod, they look really good imo.

I guess I'm easy to please, I think this is the best vanilla face gen we've had from a Bethesda game. Maybe I've just played too much vanilla Oblivion and so I appreciate it more. I've never been able to create a vanilla face that looked this realistic and had this much character. For some reason you can't see half the texture in his skin that I see while the game is running, but he looks better than this in the game. I'd be happy just with a higher resolution pack for bodies/faces.
