Strafe mode of Oblivion

In the Morrowind main menu I had a choice of Turn and Strafe (side step). I preferred Turn, combined with max. sensitivity, I could spin like a top and whack 3 ruffians at once, attack while in the air, weave through the villains (MCA). I can't do that in Oblivion because of it's Side Step (Strafe), which, at least to me, is movement limiting. Is there any way to change the Strafe mode in Oblivion's main menu?

Nope. No way. Not in vanilla.

The closest we got to that is a mod called Natural Walk, and it doesn't do what you're describing (it's actually still strafing but your character looks like it's turning; camera still faces forward rather than where the camera is looking).

I dunno what Bethesda was thinking. Maybe they were trying to emphasize on 1st person view, because a lot of the 3rd person stuff is silly or difficult.

I used Turn mode in Quake, Doom and other 1st person shooters since '92. Morrowind was the first time I tried (by accident - touched wrong key) 1st person, halfway through game. If you increase mouse sensitivity to max, it also affects left/right key turn. I now use both, 1st person for Thief/archery/spell cast, 3rd person for combat. I learned to use mouse in left hand and arrow keys in right, used together I can spin my Morrowind Markynaz like a top, in the midst of a horde of villians (MCA and Hostile Attackers). Try it, it's great fun.

It still should have been Players prerogative though.
