KennethKarl
Does anyone have a clue, or guess at the system requirements of Skyrim? Judging from the teaser preveiws it looks to be quite a bit more high end than Oblivion, FO3 or FNV.I'm thinking they airbrushed the trailer a little but I can't be sure can I? Anyone want to take a W.A.G. at it? W.A.G. = Wild Ass Guess Edited June 2, 2011 by Gaius_Ignatius
MichikoUnknownFox
lol? D: It could be a case of "If you have to ask, your computer probably can't handle it" or something. I'm pretty sure I'll have to turn most effects down. But I'm not gonna buy it immediately yet anyway. I'm gonna wait for some kind of sale at the local store or something lol (maybe Steam, but I kinda want to have a box for this kind of game). Gotta save money whenever possible. I could buy it next year or even later than that. I may end up upgrading my PC a bit first before I even think about getting Skyrim. For now, I'll just enjoy Oblivion. spiritshadowx
^-Agreed :D If like Fallout 3 (BTW, LOVE your sig pic ;D ) it's a reuse of the same engine, i'd guess at (for minimum) 2.3Ghz processor, 2GB RAM (hopefully multithreading will be added) , Any modern graphics card (I have a Intel HD and it runs Oblivion in an acceptable manner). Maximum...50TB HDD (For savewhores)30Ghz Processor1TB RAMNvidia insanely-expensive-but-we'll-give-it-a-fancy-name-to-sound-powerful-geforce 10 trillion or ATI Revolution+ 2000. I don't think there's any real graphical overhaul, maybe there will be small, medium, large and insane graphics, but i think they concentrated on making it different to Oblivion. MichikoUnknownFox
As long as they learned from their lesson of unoptimized meshes and ugly (yet still large) textures, should be fine though. It might surprise us and actually run smoother than vanilla Oblivion. Maybe they'll have a DX10/11 version, but still have a DX9 rendering option for people with older systems? Who knows? I got some newer games here that I thought would lag on my system, but I can run them on max/very high settings and my monitor's native resolution. KennethKarl
Maybe the reason NASA has stopped the shuttle program in order to run Skyrim. LOL!But seriously my computer has 8GB of RAM so I should be fine, but you never know.
MichikoUnknownFox
RAM may not be the real problem. It'll most likely be processor power + GPU speed. If it supports multiple CPU cores though it'll be better for those of us with quad or even hexacore CPUs. I may need to get a better video card though cuz mine isn't really an epic gaming card or anything. My PC is mostly built with work in mind. Sergiroth
As I said on YouTube, Skyrim is also a PS3 and 360 game ( we all know this ). I don't know what the hardware of those two console is, but if it runs on 5 years old hardware, I'm sure that a today-average Computer will be omg-damn fine. Hell, my older computer can run Oblivion with Oldblivion ( just for the crappy GeForce FX 5200 128 MB videocard ) at 800x600 with High resolution textures, distant land, trees and buildings pretty fine ( but no grass though ) and it has a 2.00 Ghz Celeron, aka the crappiest processor ever made ( it was bad even back in 2003 ) and 768 MB for the RAM. Edit: with "omg-damn fine" I meant medium-to-almost-high settings without tons of graphical effects. I'm sure that high-end computer hardware will be required when pushed at high-to-max settings. Skillet98
Bethesda has stated many times already that they have a habit of starting over every time they create a new Elder Scrolls game. And Todd Howard said in an interview with Goeff Keighley that they created Skyrim (just like every other Elder Scrolls game) from the ground up using brand new assets. Given those statements and facts, I doubt it will run on the same engine as Oblivion. :P It does look like an upgraded engine to me, if those all too short clips in the gameplay trailer are... gameplay. But as has been said, and we all know... they're making it for the Xbox as well. The real question is going to be... are Bethesda doing what they seemed to do with Oblivion and Fallout 3 and making it work on the least powerful console, and then porting it to the rest of the platforms, or... are they make it as a PC game and then removing/altering graphical features for consoles? I'm hoping for the latter.

Do not worry anyway, the PC version will be surely better for the simple fact that it's on the PC. No, I'm not saying that consoles suck. I'm just stating the fact that the PC will be able to render the game graphics better, with more smooth and realistic shadows, than those two consoles with 5 years old hardware ( also, think about graphic/textures replacement mods ). Your absolutly right. The hardware in the consoles isn't being constantly updated. We all need some PS4s and Xbox 720s ;D
