Hi everyone

First post so id like to say great site!

My current system

3800 x2

2gb ram

Ati x1300 512 mb

Im going to upgrade my gfx card, because altho the x1300 supports hdr etc

its pretty dam slow even after overclocking the crap out of it

I run at 800x600, hdr on, large tex, most other settings on medium, ive also tweaked .ini for daul core ,mem etc

I get like 15-20 fps outdoors{low poly grass on] indoors are ok 30-40 fps

Im thinking the best option would be a 8800 GTS 320Mb

I dont wanna spend big money on a gfx card

Do you guys reccomend this card? or any others in that price range

Any info would be great

Cheers

hello? anyone there...

EDIT: Merged posts. Please don't bump, it's against the rules here. Thanks. ^^

I recomend on getting a GeForce 8800 320mb GTS gfx card. I use that and I have the gfx settings on Ultra High, and NO lag at all! I also recomend getting a new computer made for gaming like mine. I had to buy a new computer custom built for this reason for $1000, top of the line for everything. I am glad i did!

Hope I helped!

If you want to run at resolutions of 1600x1200 or higher, go for the 8800GTX, else the GTS will be just fine. I've literally just bought a superclocked 8800GTS which should be arriving tomorrow. I'll let you know the difference on 3dmark06 from my 7900GTX.

Thanks for the info

Yeah prolly get 8800gts as im happy with any game at 1024x768,is the superclocked one any better then overclocking yourself??

I know there quite big cards, will it fit into my pretty lame motherboard [ms 7168 ver: 1c]

and mini tower?? are there any other req for this card?

and the new ati hd 2600 xt is priced very well

thanks l8trs

The 8800's are fast, but before anyone just rushes into one of those, you need to be sure of two things:

1. 8800's are huge. Make sure your board can support the full breadth of that card. Make sure your power supply can support them too.

2. Don't overspend on a card that exceeds your processor's ability to feed it. The Athlon 3800x2 will make excellent use of an 8800GTS, but it won't take full advantage of it. High-end cards require high-end processors to realize their full potential.. The 3800x2 is quick, but cards like the 8800's would show you more with something like a 4400x2 or 5000x2 (or Intel equivalent).

I recently bought a Geforce 7950GT 512MB, and of all the cards I've run on that particular processor, the 7950 has been the most perfect match in terms of fit and mated speed. The 8 series looks better, but the only ones that actually run better are the 8800's themselves. Avoid the 8600's at all costs. They're dogs and aren't fit to lick the asses of either the 8800's or the higher-end 7's. I was shocked at how much faster the 7950 was than the 8600GTS.

The ATI 2600's aren't much better either. Both the 8600 and the 2600 are built on crappy 128-bit memory buses. Not sure what either company was thinking with those.

In short, if you want DX10, go for an 8800GTS (if your board supports it). If you don't need DX10 right this moment (and few people actually do), go for either an ATI x1950XT or Nvidia 7950GT. The 1950Pro 256MB is slower than either of those but cheaper. (The ATI x1950XT is bit faster out of the box and looks nicer, but it also has a larger form-factor, it's loud and power-hungry, and the 7950 overclocks way better thus it will perform better in some games if you're comfortable with that sort of thing.) Sorry for the long post, but I like to be thorough lol hope that helps you.

I installed a new x1950 Pro last week (512mb, AGP version) and I totally love it. Only $180 at newegg.com. I'm running oblivion set to max video and it's very sweet - great framerate and photo-real on my 22-inch widescreen samsung running at 1680x1050 native! My sys has an AMD4800 x2 in a 939 socket and 2GB RAM, on an old asus A8V motherboard. If you have an AGP slot, you can't go wrong with this card.

BTW, you might wanna upgrade that cpu too. Check newegg for prices, you'll be surprised.

Thx Karasuman for the info

I think ill get the 8800gts as its dx10, fast and only a lil bit more $$$ then most x1950 and 7950 gt's [cheaper then some x1950 and 7950 models also]
