IF i had the knowlege i have know and other things i know (Fencing which im not sure that would help me much since they lived by the sword) then i would have love to live then. Hell prostitution was legal then. But im not sure how long i could go with out being able to talk with you people on these wonderfull forums.(so im sucking up :P ) any way it would be ok untill some desease killed me off :rip: . It would be a hard life as some of you have already showed in your posts, but i think we've had it to easy. maybe we should get rid of guns and bring back in maces and swords.

I suppose living in medieval China, wouldn't be that bad, since you won't have to live with that witch hunting, absolution, pope crap. They even developed better medical treatment (herbs, acupunctation) in this region and the warriors code of conduct sounds pretty fair to me (not that dishonest Christianity stuff). A more civilized land with civilized weapons :P.

I dunno, I think I would like to live in mid-evil Norway, or other Druidic ruled area, druids are one of the few reilgious groups thst I agree with, and I like the way they lived. But the way the Vikeings lived was pretty crazy, but i respect their way of life, you gotta admit it takes one tough or crazy angel to just row their way 80 miles over rough water, and pillage villages on the way. But then there was the whole crusades factor in the mid-evil time, pagens didnt fair too well then.... like others have said it would probably be better to just visit for a while rather than live in that time.

See, lifestyle would be worse, but in a sense, it would be better, since there is no television, computers (**gasp**)...so the kids wouldnt be as "hefty" as some are today... There would be different types of entertainment in the villages from the local jesters and what not... there would be competitions... People would just know everyone in the village, and people would really go home to eat and sleep... Sure washrooms are disgusting... but you cant have everything eh?

Washrooms? I don't think washing was much favoured at the time since it was believed to cause all manner of ills. In the winter you were often sewn into your clothes - the mind boggles (or boogies if you prefer). The stench was so bad people used to carry nosegays of flowers and scented bags. This applied to the monarchy as much as the peasantry. To be honest I wouldn't want to go back even for a weekend.

A sanitised theme park (we have a couple in the UK) is as close as I would ever want to get. But since I'm not a fan of sanitised theme parks because they are too sanitised (what a contrary person I am  ) I don't suppose I'll experience that either.

I do agree that kids were probably less hefty in those days - more to do with lack of food than lack of exercise I suspect. About the only positive thing I can think of was that smoking, as we know it, had not been invented!

(And before people tell me I'm talking through my hat I do know there were some very strange uses of leaves in various tribal societies. Hence my caveat, 'as we know it'.)

Well what i called a washroom...was actually a whole in the wall that you did your dirty business in... Smell was a big problem... always was, and lke you said... there version of cleaning was jumping in a lake...and not scrubbing or anything.

EDIT: Because of this nasty dirtyness, many people got terminal diseases...

To those that said war was more fair in the Middle Ages, it was definitely not!

It was common practice to raze (burn down) the crop fields of your enemies. Armies used catpults to lob corpses of people and animals, especially those that had died of desease (early biological warfare). They also poisoned wells and other water supplies (early chemical warfare). Generals realeased pigs and camels into the battlefeild to reduce the effectiveness of enemy calvary (horses hate their smell). The list goes on.

As for living there, well if I get to be a powerfull ruler like Barbarosa, or even better be the Islamic comander in the battle of Tours (in France), defeat the French and lead to conquer all of Europe! Then yes, but I don't need to live in the middle ages to do all that, all I need is Medieval: Total War.

Oh and the Japanese Warring States Era was pretty cool, I just love Katanas, especially Japanese ones.

Note for those tempted to ask "Is there another kind of katana?": Katana means "sword" so you can have an Italian katana just as there can be a Japanese spada.
