Mods Get Disabled Upon Fallout 4 Launch

I've had this problem also, after updating both the game as well as the NMM, but it didn't persist, meaning that I sometimes had this 'glitch' and had to manually re-activate all my plug-ins, but then the game started in a normal fashion afterwards...

Also be aware that certain mods don't function under the 1.4 game patch...

1.4 is the Automatron version right? Do you somehow know what mods in particular not work with 1.4 or do you have a link with a list or something else like that? Would be nice to know that, because i don't want to f*** up my game now, but i also don't want to disable my mods.

I currently have

CBBE

Azar's Ponytail hairstyles

infinite settlement budget mod (ONLY ESP)

and the AWKCR + weapon-/armorsmith and their requirements + nsk13's mini dress, adventurer outfit, chem i care and commonwealth shorts.

Oh and "Fallout 4 Texture Optimization Project" from torcher

It's kind of a little list of mods i use right now. I don't want to break Fallout 4, like i did with Skyrim LoL

I've had close to 200 mods installed (currently 'only' 152 with 147 plug-ins) and those you have I'm also using, bar the nsk stuff

and aalso did away with the "Fallout 4 Texture Optimization Project" as that was far inferior to the Vivid Fallout series from Hein84 (am not using his hair mod).

Hein84 succeeded in ameliorating the complete outlook of FallOut 4 with smaller sized textures but those textures are far more detailed than the vanilla ones, despite the smaller size.

I'm not aware of a list, but there isn't that many since mods that have been made prior to the patch are usually updated.

Yeah i also looked at the Vivid Fallout Textures from Hein84, but hadn't switched to them, because i was already happy with the Vanilla game and i have nearly no framerate drops (sometimes in "forest"-regions when i zoom in with a scope, but well not very often, so it is acceptable)

I also caught myself, doing a research, if Fallout 4 really came from Bethesda, since it was a really big suprise, that the game ran so smoothly for me all the time and nearly without any bugs (make that 2 bugs: Mouse acceleration was too fast and a weird terminal bug, which kind of broke the game really hard, but i managed to fix these bugs completely, which suprised me even more, since i just did two simple things: "windowed mode + borderless" in the Launcher options).

I might be considering to switch to Vivid Fallout, though. I really don't need this (since i already like the game as it is...suprisingly...), but if it is right, that the textures from that look better and are smaller sized, too then i might take a look at it.

Whatever, i think it might be safe enough for me to get Automatron and just try it out. If it bugs the sh!t out of the few mods i have, well then i play without Mods. Might even be more safe, since Mods always mean a constant chance of getting a save file broken.

I'm having the exact same issue, even when I set the plugins text file to read only, later it just gets set back.

I've done everything OP has done.

The funny thing is if I look at NMM and enable everything, check the plugins txt file, its all fine. Then if I watch the plugins in the NMM.... after a few minutes I see them all get turned off (un ticked) and checking the plugins txt file its normal again. I'm just like, why the hell is this happening.. ;-;

I'm having this same problem. Set read only on plugins.txt, the game nukes it and replaces it with a non read only version every time I launch the game. I've tried the launcher trick that was mentioned earlier as well, that didn't work either.

I've gone so far to keep a backup of my plugins.txt on my desktop, so I can simply drop it into the folder, but for whatever reason after Automatron dropped, the game resets the file every time. Didn't have this issue 3 days ago. Can't figure out why it's happening either.

Did you just install an updated version of NMM? I installed a new version and it hasn't worked since that; I'm trying to determine if NMM is the problem or if FO4 updated or something.

For what it's worth, I was still using version 0.61.9 when this started happening, I updated it to version .14 and am still having the same problem. I don't think NMM is to blame here.

I fixed my issue I think, but I don't understand why it fixes it.

I took the plugins.txt file which I kept as a backup, I manually typed in DLCRobots.esm as an entry on the one of the lines, saved it, placed it where it normally goes, and everything worked fine. My initial thought is the read only status of the file beforehand was messing with the DLC content, so the game forcefully made a new one. But that doesn't make much sense because the new one that it generated didn't contain the added line at all.

I've had this problem now for a week now and no cure in sight !! I have to load the game and it will say the mods are not active, then I close the game go into NMM and activate them

and then it will work till someone else logs onto my computer,{I share my computer with other family members} then it will start all over again.

any ideas how to fix this ???

  • 5 weeks later...

This just happened to me for a fourth time. Currently the only way I can get around it is to uninstall and reinstall every single active mod on my list. It occurs (to me at least) after an update to NMM. First with 61.14, next with a failed install of 61.15, then again with 61.15, and now I see that I have 61.16 and my game won't load again because every plugin is disabled. Has anyone found a fix yet? I opened a report here but there was no help. Time to rez that thread as well I think.

EDIT: I did find several fixes and many didn't work. A fix that wasn't yet posted is to rollback plugins.txt to a previous version. That worked for me so maybe it'll help someone else as well.

I've had this issue for weeks and I just downloaded the latest NMM and problem still exists. To test I keep NMM open and use the F4 launcher and after the launcher main menu is up for about 10 to 20 seconds I watch as all my mods are unchecked.

My work around is to launch from NMM, again keep NMM open and you see when you have the F4 main menu that your mods will not get unchecked. In testing I've left both open for up to 5 minutes and mods stay enabled. I close NMM and hit play. I have no idea whether the problem lies with NMM or the game's launcher or some combination thereof but hopefully someone (looks at NMM gurus) will find and fix the issue.

After using above I can play game just fine. Hope this helps.

Try the new NMM, if that doesn't do it, then you're back to plan B.

See the UFO4P first post for the details.

(you have to edit your plugins.txt file, make it NOT read only, and put a * in front of the mods you want to use.

No need to reinstall the mods)
