So why is having a affair with anyone under your authority abuse of power?

Abuse of trust is not the abuse of power, its the same thing regardless if your in office or not.

Would you rather have murderers or creeps in congress?

OK, I swore that I would not rise to your bait anymore, but this is so naive that it screams out for it. Having an affair with a subordinate is abuse of power because you are misusing your position of authority. In many cases the authority figure is in a position to harm the subordinate if she wishes to end the affair and all too often that is what happens. Abuse of power is an abuse of the trust that was bestowed on the authority figure in the first place. Last not by no means least ...what in god's name does line three have to do with anything? It is a total non sequitur to to the previous two lines and a throw away line at best and sheer nonsense at worst. As for creeps in Congress..we have always had some and the occasional murderer also but how you manage that leap of connecting logic is something that is beyond my ken. Of course as usual I await with painful certitude your newest rationalization of your logic train, but that light you see at the end of the tunnel is more likely the headlights of an onrushing train of actual reason than the daylight you seem to think it is.

"In many cases the authority figure is in a position to harm the subordinate if she wishes to end the affair and all too often that is what happens."

Your right, but simply by having a relationship with them is not abuse of power. If you go on to harm them person if they wish to stop, it becomes abuse of power.

"Having an affair with a subordinate is abuse of power because you are misusing your position of authority."

Not true. If the relationship has nothing to do with your authority, it is not misusing your position.

I understand where that is coming from, but it is completely different with a congressperson.

Wiener couldn't really do anything if someone he was in contact with decided to stop.

EX: Someone has sex with one of his staff. Both sides agree to it since they have feelings for each other besides the position of power he is in. That is not abuse of power. If he goes on to attempt to hurt the person because the staff wants to stop the relationship, then it is abuse of power.

EX: Someone has sex with one of his staff. He uses his power as a influence to get her to do it. That is abuse of power.

Line three was said wrong, I am trying to say that most of congress pretty much agree to start wars and kill people, whats the big deal with having a creep? I know some people may support the Iraq and Afgan wars, but a lot of people in congress even support the Libya war. Pretty sure even wiener supported the Iraq war.

Also @ the Ron Paul thing...

Ron Paul has voted for oil subsidizes before, while he may have some good ideas on foreign policy, I can't see any reason why he would vote for oil subsidizes.

What bothered me the most about this was that he lied about being hacked. No member of Congress should lie to the press, though I'm sure it happens all of the time.

Bingo.

Bottom line is he lied, and that calls a lot more into question than just exchanging naughty pictures.

If he were my congressman, and he had come out telling the truth right from the start, I'd probably vote for him when his term was up.

Every single person in congress lies to the people, that's not a big deal.

Even in their campaign ads they constantly lie.

Q: How can you tell if a politician is lying?

A: His lips are moving.

Politicians lie. Its a fact of life. If we gave every politician that lied in the course of their job the boot, there wouldn't be anyone left in washington. I don't see that as such a bad thing..... (not the lying part.....)

Huh, kinda funny.

Clicked on this topic and news showed that he will resign after I clicked it.

Anyways, he said he will resign.

Of course, he could be lying about that too

The only reason I think he shouldn't resign is because everyone in congress is a bad person.

If the pictures were sent without consent, it should be a criminal issue IMO. If they were sent with consent, I don't care.

First off I am not a democrat or one of Weiner's constituents but isn't the criteria for his resignation whether he can no longer effectively represent his district? To date his only maleficence is bad taste and an inability to own up to his perverted behavior neither of which is a crime. He did not post his pics on a public site but sent them privately, if the recipients did not find it offensive then just why are the people in his own party so willing to throw him under the bus? Just for the record on a political basis I find him offensive but his private behavior is none of my business and I could care less what he does off the floor as long as it is not a felony. If the Brits did as we seem to do with sexual shenanigans Parliament would be half empty, they seem to have more common sense about such peccadilloes.
