I DO NOT use any ENB, sweetFX or any Hi res texture mod.
I have installed and running Stutter Remover, NVSE, NVAC and 4GB LAA.
And aslo run the game in windowed mode using the OneTweak.
I even merged many small mods using the Merge Plugin to reduce the load order.

Yet in scenes like this it drops down to around 40 fps:

Not to mention with NVR 3 where in Atomic Wrangler drops down to 30.

I know my PC is not top of the line, but it should handle the game easily.

What am I doing wrong? :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

I see people on Youtube running the game with even more mods, with ENBs and hi res texture mods at solid 60 fps.

As no one else has made any suggestions, here are my 2 cents. Lower your expectations. Quit watching the FPS indicator and concentrate on how smoothly the game plays.

I have an even older system ([email protected] w/GTX760 driving dual monitors and a GT240 dedicated to PhysX processing but otherwise similar), and I'm ecstatic to be getting 40-60 FPS normally while running with EMC textures and ENB at 1920x1080. I had to disable some ENB effects like Ambient Occlusion and SkyLighting, but some tuning was to be expected. With Oblivion I was routinely getting 20-30 FPS, which was playable as long as stutter was under control. No one expected to get 60 FPs routinely in that game simply due to the age of the engine. But it taught me a lot about tuning the game to take the best advantage of what I had.

Scenes like you show that are full of particle effects (smoke and fires) are heavy draws on graphics processing and will always drop FPS even on the very best rigs. "Flickering lights" and lots of ground "clutter" are more heavy hitters. Even standing still in an interior cell you can see constant fluctuations in the FPS simply due to script processing. "Constant FPS" is a myth. Most of the time people are "reporting" (boasting) about peak FPS. When it really counts, they are too busy to be watching the FPS counter (which puts it's own strain on the system.)

Unless you have unlimited pockets, hardware envy will ruin any game. Focus your efforts on getting smooth gameplay and enjoy at whatever FPS. That rig is quite capable of giving you a good game.

The engine is a dog, the computer from the Starship Enterprise would struggle to hold 60 frames a second once a few mods are added. I have the same GPU as you along with a slightly better CPU and I cap my game at 30 to keep the frame rate steady, I prefer a solid 30 to bouncing around from 60 to 40 to 30 to 60 again.

I've been modding and playing this game for years and it never stops to surprise me.
Van graffs without NMC - 55 fps
With NMC - stable 60 fps.

???

And you guys are right. I expect too much from the engine.
I used to play game capped at 30 fps on my old laptop, but since I bought the new PC, 30 fps seems....eh. :P

When you have FPS concerns, alt-tab and check the windows "resource monitor"; if one of your CPU cores is 90-100%, it's the limiting factor. I mention this because errant scripts can cause some major lag in the game where you least expect it.

Notable examples:

* Meltdown Medley has a script on each piece of Flamer ammo that will bog your system down with large quantities of said ammo in your character inventory.

* MMUE+ used to enable [previously disabled] Great Khans in Redrock Canyon; their AI packages were putting a strain on the engine to the tune of -10fps.

In short, see if you get any better results through troubleshooting and disabling some mods ;) Also, I've personally had questionable results with the latest NV Stutter Remover(s) - I've stuck with 4.1.31.

I did a clean install after my post here and my Frame Rate has jumped quite a bit, 60 looking ahead, turn around and face my army of followers... oh dear. :D
