Can't drop 4 billion (?!) armor pieces...help?

One of my inventory items has suddenly gone from one to 4 billion, causing, as you might imagine, a serious overweight problem.

And I can't drop or transfer or sell it/them, and the console command to remove it/them doesn't seem to work, either.

The Pip-Boy apparel inventory screen shows:

Cushioned Boiled Leather Left Leg (4294967295)

The console player.showintventory screen has this line:

0 - Leather Left Leg (000789C4) - Outfit ' (0001D984)'

That's the only item which has a zero as the first entry on the line, BTW.

Does anyone have a suggestion for how to rid myself of this impediment to movement? It doesn't seem to affect game play other than the usual no running or fast travelling when overloaded, and I'd sooner not play through the rest of the game in god mode or staggering through the Commonwealth.

Only "solution" I have at hand is to try and alter your carry weight through the console: player.modav carryweight xxxx

until someone comes up with a better idea/solution...

*EDIT*

I mean, set your carryweight higher than what you're carrying with those 4 bllion items included.

Don't you have a save from before the items appeared?

That's certainly a solution, although I'm not sure how the game/engine would respond to having carryweight set at over 11 billion.

I'm reasonably diligent about making new saves before and after important events (and probably too obsessive about quick saves), so I do have a save from before my inventory glitched. I would have preferred it if the last good save had been before rather than after I made the trek to Vault 95, two levels ago, but one can't have everything.

I had wondered whether someone knew of a way to edit out an item from the savegame file, or something of the kind. I'm not a modder of any sort, and I haven't done any file editing except for what's required to tweak the .ini for using mods, but I figured it was worth asking , just in case.

Also, even after playing a lot of heavily modded Skyrim and FO New Vegas, this is the first time that I've encountered an inventory glitch quite like this one. Come to think of it, the first sign that something was wrong was when the item count in the inventory for that armor piece showed (-1), which I thought strange, of course, but didn't worry overly much about while trying to sneak by super mutants. The next time I checked the inventory, the count had change to over 4 billion for this item of which I was supposed to have, if memory serves, two. It sounds like some sort of rollover glitch, I guess. I hadn't done anything unusual to cause it, to the best of my knowledge, though.

Something to be wary of, I guess, and maybe motivate us to be a little more aggressive about frequently saving, just in case.

My F5 touch shows a serious dent from frequent quicksaving. Only time I use a "New Save" is before major 'happenings'.

Must say I have never encountered a glitch as the one you fell victim to. Have 2600hrs in FO4 (with currently 150 active mods and 144 plug-ins) and had all kinds of funny stuff, mostly things disappearing (like the Fusion Core on my Power Armour whenever I disembark it near the PA station in Sanctuary and/or Red Rocket Truck Stop), but never had stuff added...

Am not knowledgable enough myself to lend a further hand, Balefire, so, I can only wish you good luck and hope someone strolls through with a solution and an explanation of how and why...

Thanks for the good wishes in any case.

I've lost the odd item to glitches a few times, too, but never had them added before.

I went with a previous save and have just done the Fort Independence quest; I'll leave Cait's problem for a bit later. So far so good: the inventory is behaving normally.

This is my second character, having played the first through much of the main quest--but not yet to where anyone is irrevocably unhappy with me--and done a great deal of exploring...level 60-something on that character.

I thought I'd start a second playthrough, this time with the benefit of having a little better idea of how things work and what's to be expected where. Ironically, at level 20-odd, I came across the really unexpected, instead.

So far, I've only got a dozen or so plug-ins/mods installed. None of them seems to be the cause of the problem, so my best guess is that the game was trying to do something while I was checking inventory, and there was a conflict of some sort. It's a puzzle that may inspire someone to look into it, I suppose.

Anyway, thanks for offering help/advice.

First run I did was totally glitch- and CTD free, without any mods installed. Took me around 420hrs to reach level 108 and do the end-quest sided with the RailRoad. Was running around aimlessly, not finding new things, so I re-started, this time, with a few mods installed.

Strangely, within the first couple of hours of the new game, I ran into two spots I hadn't been before :D

I added mods as I went along, until I was at lvl148 after 540hrs of playing and it became obvious I needed a fresh game to take full advantage of a few settlement expansion mods I'd installed. Instead of a new game, I loaded the save from the previous game, just before leaving vault 111 and continued tinkering with mods while playing...

Then I updated to the 1.3 version of the game and it all went pear-shaped, with .esps not loading, crashes and the whole kaboodle. A few days later patch 1.4 was out and I upgraded to that, but things didn't really ameliorate. Now, the game seems more or less stable again, with a whole bunch of deactivated mods and .esp files, but I still have too many CTD for comfort, to the point I play far less than before, just to sing it out until the GECK is released and maybe mods will come out which will stabilise the game again... we'll see

Cheerio Balefire
