This is a mod... for the ladies.

Since the game has come out, there has been an undercurrent of dissatisfaction for the lady gamers with the male followers.

I shall paraphrase the various issues as I understand them:

Boone is dark and brooding, which ladies love. He has a tragic past, and is a rehabilitation case, which they also love. Emotional scars, nursing back to health and all. Chicks love that. He also has a pugface and serious hangups due to previously stated issues.

Arcade... for all his virtues, prefers the company of men (who doesn't?).

Raul... yeah. Everyone is someone's fetish, I guess.

So I am offering up to fill this void, but will need you to tell me what you want it to be, as I certainly have no idea.

Here is a starting point I just thought up. You can give your opinions, reject it and post your own, go into as little or as much detail as you want. I will try to take what's doable and what makes sense and make something palatable out of it. And if not, it will pretty much be your fault, I just did what you told me :)

Setting: Some cave

Player is enticed to enter somehow. TBD. It is a trap. John Heartthrob, freelance slaver, tranqs you with a dart.

When awakening you are restrained and enter dialog, where he can be prodded into revealing he makes his living harvesting lone wanderers (no relation) and selling them in Cottonwood Cove. He has been hanging around Legion too much, and has his perspective of women is all skewed. They are weak, fated for servitude, blabla and so on. So when he saw a lone lady wandering around the desert he couldn't help himself and lured you. Then when he knocked you out and saw your vast array of armaments, he is confused in several ways. He is afraid of a weak, servant woman for one. Should he cut his losses, cut your throat, and wait for the next one? When the conversation is over, something attacks. Maybe a beast of some sort, maybe Legion that he pissed off, who knows. He realizes he can either die (and you too) or let you go and try to survive together.

Assuming you do, you can see lots of opportunity for dialog, growth from hatred/fear to respect, and so on.

Discuss. Or throw it away and come up with your own. I leave it to you, Ladies of the Nexus.

Have you thought of why he is following you after you leave the cave? Maybe you can stick one of his own slave collars on him! The reason I say this is, he won't willingly go with the weak woman will he? prehaps in a while you could take it off and black widow him into staying.

Im not a woman btw just tryin to help.

This chick hates his angsty quiet. He isn't that cool quiet (Clint Eastwood). And it's over another woman. Enough already!

Serious flaw. I can't even pretend he likes me. And I love his character. I can't forgive Obsidian for this.

I don't have a problem with ghouls, but seriously, he is the most depressing character evah!

I love this. It's a great beginning to their story. There are so many ways to go with it and it's simple and strong. Just perfect for a game.

It's not just girls that want a better male companion.

I think there are two roles this guy can fill. There will be players that want romance and players that want him as just a friend. So, I think he could offer both to players depending on what the player wants.

I don't know exactly what more to say. I have a lot to say about companions so could go on and on and on...

Maybe someone else could come into the thread

God I hate Boone and his brooding, I mean I get why and thats great for character building.. but as a romance? No way.

Arcade, well since I play a gay male character right now... it works out nicely... but he sure does not have a lot of content. *sniffles* he is no willow D:

Raul... I love him in a bromance kinda friendship.

Personally, I think it is a interesting start... not a gushy love at first site. I like it.

But uh anyway to make the romance available for everyone, ladies and men?

Really I SUCK at these kinda planing things, I do not have a huge request other then the open romance. I enjoy bastard characters if done well, I enjoy good guys if done well.

As a Baldur's gate fan (god I love that game series) I do know... I love flirts in a romance lol.

I would be willing to help out with any textures and armor if you have need I like makeing faces:

I endorse everything in this thread, except all the Boone scorn. :'(

I like the idea for the plot, and I agree with Llama; there are two roles that a companion can fill here. Potential to bang, or potential bromance. True, there are a lack of male companions, but I think what everyone really wants is something like Llama has brought to life with Willow--a companion mod that is interactive and immersive and actually has a type of substance and depth, instead of just being someone who follows you and shoots the things you do.

Let Nivea make the character and I'll die happy. I am a secret stalker fan of her and her boys. :3

I have nothing else to offer except my ETERNAL, UNDYING & DRUNKEN SUPPORT.

The Dating Game FONV Edition: Boone.

Misunderstood, or just mishandled?

During my first (aborted) playthrough, I strongly disliked this character; so much, in fact, that I planned to skip hiring him the next time around (finish game). With his simple, fairly unoriginal dialogue, he came off as cartoonish, two-dimensional and just generally lame. Especially in comparision to ALL of the other human companions.

*SPOILER*

However, upon reaching Bitter Springs with him, as he spills his guts about the Great Khan incident, and the full facts about the death of Carla, we see him actually manifest as a "real" person. Boone isn't pathetic anymore. He's truly tragic.

I already hated the Legion to this point, but after Boone's reverie, I wished we could wipe them out all the way to Ohio.

Ladies: as a lifelong, card carrying heterosexual, I must step up for my amigo Boone.

Well its not that I do not like Boone, I just can not see him as a viable "romance" option for the ladies... I mean the man has issues, good character issues that make him interesting... but issues none the less that I dont think can be really healed at this point.

Awww Odile, you make me blush. My boys are not that good. XD

Hmm, well, as a guy I'm not very interested in romancing him, but I too get annoyed every time by Boone's single-word answers and end up leaving him in the Lucky 38 suite until I need him to pose some suit. I wouldn't mind a companion that can use a gun and isn't an uncommunicative ass.

Come to think about it, that more or less sums up most characters that go overboard with the past trauma and needing to be coaxed across half the game to just act like a decent human being. Well, at least here they didn't make him the protagonist like in Grandia 2. Now that one annoyed me no end.

So on the whole it sounds promising, I'd say.

Boone shot his wife shortly before being recruited by the Courier, I don't think he's going to be looking for romance any time soon. If you ladies are looking for a companion that can end up being a romance, I think an entirely new character is in order, not one already established in the vanilla game.
