New DLC beat in 20 minutes, feel letdown

Well it certainly hasn't added any additional difficulty for me. These robots aren't any more challenging than anything else in the game. But, I am playing with a pretty high level character. They said this expansion was designed for level 15+ so maybe if I tried playing it at that low of a level it would be more of a challenge.

For only $10.00, I'd say the amount of content you can theoretically get from this is pretty fair. Obviously you can just do the bare minimum, blow through all the missions and then never interact with anything from this DLC again, which significantly lowers the value, but if you're into settlements, crafting, etc, then this does seem worth it.

So I love Fallout 4 and I'm mostly waiting for the workshop next month for the real modding to begin. I've beaten the game and seen all endings and I'm still playing because its fun. That being said, the new dlc came out today and it took me all of 20 minutes to beat. Its literally just 3 quests that dont take long at all. I did it at level 16 with only the starting weapons and armor after concord with little effort on "very hard" difficulty. I do love the fact that you can build your own robot companion but I do wish you could create eyebots. Seems weird that they left that out. There IS a "eyebot pod schematic" that leds you build an eyebot pod but all it does is let you send an eyebot to search for something like ammo or scrap, doesn't actually give you an eyebot companion at all. Just feels like there really isnt $10 worth of content here. I bought the season pass when the game came out so I guess I'm lucky.

I don't think it was ever intended as a full-fledged DLC in the vein of say, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta for FO3. That much was clear from pretty much any of the information available on it prior to release. I bought it expecting a workbench and some custom robots and was surprised to find it even had quests and armour + weapons, let alone the other extras. Although it's quite disappointing to think that all three of these DLC will probably be the exact same level of content, and we probably won't see a full-sized DLC until after they're done messing around with harpoon guns and diving suits, if at all.

So I just finished it, I have no idea how much time I put into it but it wasn't very much. But, I'd say it's worth $10. I say that because the robot companions are pretty BA. I've got ADA maxed out with the best of everything and duel wielding laser miniguns, and I can pretty much just walk into any enemy base and stand there doing nothing while she reigns down hell on everything in her path.

I plan on doing a playthrough where instead of the Mechanist stands down, I take the suit and take over the role as Mechanist and use Ada or another robot as my sidekick.

just role play that she's locked in your bunker as your slave while you wear her armor and torment the wasteland with her robots

I do like that we can apparently make as many robots as we want, which is great for setting up settlements because they can be assigned to things you would normally have to wait for an npc settler to do. Unfortunately I don't think the developers have given the robots appropriate animations. I had a laser totting Protectron with the arms of a Sentry Bot sent to the Tenpines Bluff Settlement and assigned it to a scavenging station but all I have seen it do is stand in front of the station rather than wander around like a normal settler would. Also, if you want a robot to stick around a settlement just give it a "beep" voice otherwise they will annoy you with requests to go and observations about the Wasteland while you're around. R2-D2 in Star Wars was never annoying because George Lucas could not possibly write bad dialogue for him, same for these robots.

What is great about these bots is that they make settlements more interesting and are far and above superior to settlers in combat. That goes doubly so for using Sentry Bots as Provisioners, whereas a fully armed Settler Provisioner with Plasma Weapons, Ballistic Fiber garb and Polymer Armor will barely hold its own against a legendary dog despite the ridiculous amount of resource invested, a far cheaper Sentry Bot will be able to mulch regular enemies and take on elites depending on the weapons given to it.

Perhaps in the Wasteland Workshop DLC we will finally get the ability to recruit elite settlers like mercenaries and maybe even find a quicker source of Brahmin and Junkyard Dogs. That would compliment the robots from Automatron quite nicely.

Don't let anyone from loverslab see this, you'll give them ideas.
